My son goes to a prep school up to 13. However I have applied for him to sit the 7+ entrance exam in another area of London I wish to move to IF he gets accepted!!!
However, the new school want a headmasters report from his existing school in December, and the exam will be in January. The trouble is, I was reading the terms and conditions of his existing school that say if they are made aware that a child is applying for another school prior to 13+ then they will assume that he would be leaving at the end of that academic year and will not guarentee a place for him for September!!!!!
I don't know what to do as I really want the new school but not sure if he will get in and may lose this good school as well????? Can someone please advise????

Phone the headmaster of the 7+ school and explain the situation, he/she would have dealt with that problem before. Would presume if you son does very well in the exam that he would be accepted.

TennisMom - can't you name and shame this prep or is your middle son still there? This sounds like bullying and I hate schools who take it out on the children.

i just spoke to the 7+ school and they will not make any special exceptions for any child.
My only bet is to approach his current school nearer the time and explain we have to decide whether to move closer to husbands work if we get into school, otherwise we stay where we are and hubby has to work away few days a week? u think they would be reasonable to this?

Tennismom, that is outrageous. Our school were very good about boys leaving to go to Colet Court etc. even though they too expect boys to stay until 13. Also pathetic of the parents. I am still very good friends with those who have left and happy for their DCs. It is very unrealistic in this day and age to expect no movement. Tiffinmad no real advice other than that above or alternatively to tell the head you are thinking of moving house and a new school would be more convenient, but that should your DS not pass the 7+ you are willing to commute back to the current school, and sound him out that way rather than saying that you just want to 'swap' schools.. Probably a bit rubbish but can' t think how else to do it should you be forced to try and obtain the headmasters report.
