Curriculum for Excellence: What subjects are taught at Scottish Primary Schools?

English, maths, history, geography, science and art were my subjects at primary but that was a long, long time ago. I'd like to join the Eco Committee at my DC's school and I'm trying to find out about environmental education in Scottish primaries - is it a separate subject? The Curriculum for Excellence website and Eco Schools website are huge and slightly confusing to a tired brain.
What subject would, for example, litter and waste minimisation be addressed under?

DD says she does, art, French, topic, writing, language, maths, science, RME, PE, and she thinks that's it. She says only the people on the Eco committee do the Eco stuff. But then she is 8...

Thank you! But what is topic? Apart from an amazing tasty chocolate bar?

Not a separate subject, could be covered under science, geography, language/literacy etd. CforE has a big emphasis on cross-curricular learning so it should be covered somehow but not necessarily in the same way in each school.

Lots of schools do Eco-Schools. You could contact the teacher who runs the Eco-Committee or get involved through the PTA or Parent Council. Good luck!

Topic could be anything sciencey, history, geog etc. Anything from Katie Morag, to the Vikings, rainforests, maps and mapping etc.

i thought the whole thing about CfE in primary is that all the subjects are taught but they don't necessarily say - now we are doing science, or now we are doing english, the exceptions being RME and PE which are compulsory. The rest seem to be taught through the selected topic. For example if they have chosen "the 2nd world war" They may write stories or poems about what happened, they do maths via rationing etc, they may do science by talking about gas masks or something and then art and technology are covered by building an anderson shelter, geography would be looking at the countries involved and history bit is all incorporated. Eco would be incorporate wherever it was suitable. It might be worth looking at the criteria required for each Eco Award - a lot of the eco stuff e.g. planting and litter picking and recycling are actually covered more during school breaks than in class.
