Home visit from Reception Teacher tomorrow - what questions shall I ask?

That's it really.

Teacher and TA are visiting tomorrow morning and I have no questions, beyond what he actually needs to take on the first day.

I am going to mention his medication and that his glasses are new and therefore get removed a lot. Anything else they will want to know about?

Should I tell them that he still won't reliably go to the toilet for a number 2? Really hoping he will save it for home...

you will be a dream compared to me! we also have a home visit tomorrow, and i posted this morning wondering what the visit will involve too.

currently on my list of questions/concerns are : where to take him the first morning, whether water is provided at lunch or not, to let them know that he will have spare clothes in his PE bag in case of accident, i would like to know more about their bullying policy, i would like to let them know a bit about my DS and his ways, and ask how they might deal with him.

I am really not looking forward to him going to school (can you tell?!) i am so worried that he will be switched off learning either through him being fobbed off when he asks one of his hundreds of questions, or through not getting something right first time and then berating himself for it - he does this a lot, despite lots of encouragement and praise and i dont really know how to fix it. Teachers just do not have the time to worry about and care for every child individually I am sure. I am worried he is going to get 'lost' in the system, and will not be heard or attended to against other noisier classmates.

Sorry have gone off-post a bit but i hope its ok to ask a wide range of questions!

I'm going to ask if our nanny needs to come with me to be introduced to her as the nanny will be collecting him three days a week.

I also want to know if ds can bring some sweets in for the class on his birthday (his second day at school!)

I want to know when they start having weekly PE, and do I get my hands on his PE kit each week to wash it?

I know they get phonics work every day from the first term in reception, my dh gets home quite late, just in time to tuck him up really, so I'm a bit worried no one will be around to do his phonics work with him (our nanny's English pronunciation can be a little imaginative)

Umm, I meant to make a list and there are loads more I've forgotten.

shelley72 · 03/09/2012 17:44

thats a good one about the PE kit headfairy thank you. luckily we will have missed DS's birthday so no need to worry about cake/sweets Smile

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/09/2012 17:51

Yes I must check about PE kit.

shelley a lot of your questions are answered in the very good booklet we had from school before their settling in visits.

Oh another thing I will ask is about school lunches. We can pay online for ours, but I don't know if I need to book much in advance. I think they need two weeks notice so I may have missed the boat for the start of term... oops

shelley72 · 03/09/2012 18:38

your school must be better than ours Wink

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/09/2012 18:42

Ha - sorry I didn't mean it that way at all! Blush

i know Smile even the best booklet wouldnt stop me worrying!

PippasArse · 03/09/2012 19:38

my first question would be

why do you need to visit me and see my home?

but then I've never known this to happen anywhere to anyone so I'd be a shite person to ask Grin

mimiof3 · 03/09/2012 20:01

omg, am dreading the teacher visit tomorrow. I feel like I'm bloody going to school myself!! I have a friend who's a head teacher at a primary school and basically they come to have a nose at where the children live ie is the house clean, are they going to be a problem child etc. Well they'll certainly find out round at ours tomorrow Wink

headfairy · 03/09/2012 20:14

Pippa we were told it's so the teachers can see the children in a more relaxed environment, somewhere they're more comfortable so they can get a better idea of their personality. Mind you that might be bobbins, because my ds is apparently an absolute angel at nursery and can be a right bugger at home! Argh, maybe that's his true personality!

headfairy · 03/09/2012 20:16

I went to the pub with some of the school mums at the weekend and we had a bit of a joke about how we're all going to be doing some competitive baking to win favours with the teacher! I hope they're joking, I'm crap at baking gets out the gin for teacher

coldcupoftea · 03/09/2012 20:23

I was mainly stressing about what type of biscuits to buy, now I have to think of some kind of sensible questions too?!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/09/2012 20:27

I wasn't going to bake. Do I need to bake?

I have cleaned though Grin

OP posts:
headfairy · 03/09/2012 21:53

OH yes baking is required... I will be offering a full buffet of baked goods and 15 different types of tea and coffee :o

moonblushtomato · 03/09/2012 21:56

I'M definitely going to bake! I did so for DS and he's done really well in Reception so I'm sure it will work for DD Grin

It makes me feel soooooo worthy!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 03/09/2012 22:00

Our butler will be on hand to deal with any refreshment needs. The cook has already got all eventualities covered Wink

I will simply be asking how I can best support my ds throughout his education!

headfairy · 03/09/2012 22:16

Would it be in poor taste to palm the teacher a £50 on her way out with the choice words "there's plenty more where that came from darlin'"?

Wink
Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/09/2012 00:20

Ah feck I will have to make something then. Grin

DH and I have finished the homework we got given (not a joke) so hopefully we will tick whatever boxes they are looking to tick!

headfairy · 04/09/2012 23:03

Ok, got a couple more...

It's says in the school notes that reception children have a snack at break time, do I have to provide the snack, and if so are there restrictions on what that snack can be, ie no cakes etc.

What should be in their school bags each day? Ie water bottle, pencil case, snack etc?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/09/2012 23:26

We had a successful visit!

DS1 was charming and v.polite with no prompting, I asked sensible questions.

Yay Grin

Head fairy - our school say nothing but water bottle. I saw on a thread here a lot of teachers saying that they don't need a pencil case or anything until they are much older normally. Worth checking though, I have a horror of DS not having something that everyone else has miraculously know about!

headfairy · 05/09/2012 23:00

Nice one ali... Our teacher was running so late today she had to reschedule a few visits, including ours, to Friday morning!

mumoftwolilboys · 06/09/2012 13:02

Really? ...About the baking.. I have to get cracking then!!

Won't they be sick of cakes and biscuits after a few visits? :)
