Pros/Cons of changing schools/ not living near school

Hello!

Does anyone have any thoughts or even better any links to research studies about children changing primary school? Child in question would be finishing reception then starting new school for year 1, if move goes ahead. Any "type" of child copes with this better? Is it better to do younger or older?

Also. Do you think going to a school not particularly close to home has a detrimental affect on children? We are talking a 15-20 min drive. I can only think of difficulties arranging playdates after school and possibly difficulties attending after school clubs etc. Again, any online links/research/ your experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I can only give you my experience. We moved DS at the end of P1 and I worried endlessly about it. However DS was fine, his teacher said that by the end of day 1 it was like he'd always been there.

I did put myself out to meet the other mums, arrange play dates etc so he had friends. DS is quite sensitive but confident.

It's a short drive to school but a lot of the children live away from school. He has plenty of play dates etc.

One thing is that the children in our street all go to a different school and I think it is god for DS to have friends to play with who are not at his school. It seems to keep school things in perspective for him.
