Logo'ed school jumpers and bags sold out!!!

Dd3's primary wear sweatshirts with the logo and have book bags too. They are strongle discouraged from taking other bags as they are seriously lacking space in the cloakrooms.

Anyway they are only available from one supplier so I foolishly expected them to have lots of stock,

Wrong!

I went today to pick up a new sweatshirt and bag for Dd3, hers are ok from last year but a bit tatty and they no sweatshirts in her size or bags. They said I can order but they wont be in by the start of term.

I am not very impressed and did tell the staff in the shop that as they are the only supplier I would expect them to carry plenty of stock and they just looked blanky at me and said "Yes, we know"

Not a massive problem for me because Dd3 likes wearing stuff till it falls off her but not a great situation.

Ho HumHmm

Well, you have left it a bit late ...

BeckyBendyLegs · 29/08/2012 17:22

I always leave it to the last minute too, hoping to get DS1's new school tops on the first day of school next week (as that is when the school are going to be selling them, they did sell them last term but that was way too early to be thinking of the new term). I think they should make sure they have enough stock for everyone, esp as it's not as if they will go to waste, is it? They will eventually sell them all and they should except Aug / Sept to have a peak in sales.

Having a similar problem here. Dd1&2's school have changed their school badge. The uniform shop don;t have any, and don't know, if or when they are getting any in Hmm

How helpful.

can you get a jumper and book bag in the right colour but without the logo?

i dont buy the logo jumpers i get the same colour (maroon) from saisburys and.just bought a plain book bag.

Hulababy · 29/08/2012 17:35

Used to have this a fair bit with DD's school uniform, which we buy via John Lewis. The stock held was minimal and always had to order in.

Ineedaflippinmedal · 29/08/2012 17:44

Dont know about buying it without the logo TBH, The sweatshirt is to only item with the logo and when they had new uniform last year we were asked to buy the logo'ed one.

I know they cant technically inforce this rule but I really like the school and dont want to upset anyone.

I have decided to repair her book bag and ask at school whether they are able to get some.

I have never had this before as Dd3 would not wear the official cardi at her old school [too scratchy] and was happy to have an Asda or Sainsbury's one.

When she moved schools last year the uniform supplier came to school to sell sweatshirts before the summer hols, they made sure they had plenty of stock then.

I have same problem with M&S Your School Uniform. They're the only supplier and have been sold out of age 3-4 since third week of July! Feel sorry for DD not having a cardigan/jumper on her first day but hoping that plenty of others are in the same boat.

Ineedaflippinmedal · 29/08/2012 21:45

It's not great is it. Hopefully it will be warm and your LO wont need a cardiHmm

I've got to go chasing logo'ed games kit tomorrow. Very inconvenient. Went in week 3 of holidays, they were still waiting for stock.

They always run out of summer polo shirts too.

There is only one primary and one secondary school in the town, surely it's not that hard to guess sales.

shopofdreams · 29/08/2012 22:35

On the first day just let the school know that the supplier was out of stock,
then they won't hassle you or your child.
Schools know this happens so don't worry.

BooksandBrunch · 30/08/2012 14:01

I had a friend who laughed at me for getting my son's secondary uniform before they broke up from school when kids are known to go through a summer growth spurt. Indeed, the new school's 'uniform sales day', dictated that to a degree, so we just whacked on an inch or so size wise.

My friend on the other hand went uniform shopping last week, which seemed like a good idea too as her son had indeed, shot up a couple of inches. Only problem is he will have to be starting school with no blazer or jumper because the uniform shop has run out. Knowing that most parents buy their uniforms mid July even Miss not-very-organised me wouldn't have left it till this late tbh. So be warned for Secondary is all I'm saying:)

mrsscoob · 30/08/2012 21:54

They should have plenty of stock if they are the only supplier. You have not left it late as they havent even gone back to school yet. Besides a lot of people don't get paid until the end of the month so have to wait until then to buy.

BooksandBrunch · 31/08/2012 02:41

Should've, could've, would've - but they don't.

PostmanPatsBlackandWhiteCat · 31/08/2012 08:25

Is your school registered with the Tesco embroidery service ?
If not I would just buy a plain jumper in school colours until the logo'd ones are in stock.

Its a stupid situation. Not everyone wants to buy their kids school uniform in June or July.

Its the way every sodding thing in this country is marketed. Xmas stuff is already in the shops and the kids aint back at school yet. Try buying certain utems in December and you wont be able to and by boxing day the Easter eggs are out on the shelves.

Pisses me off no end. Not everyone wants to live 3 months in advance of real life. Lots can happen in 3 months and kids grow!

BooksandBrunch · 01/09/2012 03:07

Soggy I couldn't agree with you more. It is indeed stupid. Rest assured I'm the most disorganised, last minute cookie in the world. Only problem is, in this situation, I know there are a whole bunch of pedantic and organised mums out there, so (not just the bits I purchased from the school) I had to get my finger out in advance for once in my life, to make sure I wasn't in the situation the OP is in and my mate who's ds will be starting school without a blazer and jumper.

Love Postmans suggestion too - but now look, if she goes this route, the delay is also going to cost her more.
