My 7 year old daughter is starting school this sept. Do I have everything?

Hi, my daughter is going to school after being home educated. She should be in year 3 but is going into year 2, due to her SEN's.
This is what I have so far.

Uniforms x 2
PE kit x2 with pumps
New shiny shoes (Velcro, for Euphemia) Wink
School bag
Pencil case with pens pencils etc
socks, undies etc
waterproof jacket.

Is there anything else she might need? She's having school dinners, so doesn't need a lunch box.

Good luck Lucy.

Hope this school works out OK for her.

Sounds good that she's starting in Y2.

Are they applying for a statement for her? Or have you already done so?

MLL, this is so exciting!

With regards spare clothes, I send in a complete set of uniform in a labelled draw string bag at the beginning of term. Then, when the school staff need to use any of it, they send home the soiled items in a plastic bag, and the next day I replace it. That way, they always have a complete set which doesn't get lost.

A liittle purse if they do snacks at break time from the tuck shop.

more uniform but check with the school as you probably won't need the pencil case. It's always nice for children to have some new bits of stationery at the start of the school year, though, to use at home. Check she knows where her nametapes are so that she can recognise / identify her own stuff.

I put my DS2's spare uniform/pants in a plastic bag in his PE bag, Staff know where it is, but it doesn't draw attention to the fact he has spares at school.

mummyloveslucy · 26/08/2012 19:46

Thanks everyone. Great idea about the extra PE bag for soiled clothes. Far more descrete.

I'm ordering name lables with fairy/princess pictures on them. I doubt she's recognise her name, especialy if she isn't the only Lucy. She would recognise the pictures though.

I didn't think of a purse. I'm not sure what they do for snack time either. I might pack her a bag of fruit for her first day.

IndigoBell- We've applied for a statutory assessment for her. They are funding her a one to one, all the time she's there. She'll only be doing two hours a day to start with, to ease her back into it. The teachers are trying to get her 3 hours a day. Once her statment is in place, she can go full time.

Great news about the statement.

And about the part time start.

And about the pics on the name tags.

You might want to tell the teacher to put a picture on her tray and peg etc.

My DD couldn't recognise her name when she was in Y3 because the teacher put the full version of it rather than the abbreviated version on her tray. Twas very embarassing

Our school has just included extra's in the PE kit - we now have to have 3 full PE kits for Primary (!)

Kit one : Swimming kit - waterproof bag, swimming costume/swim shorts, goggles and swimming cap.

Kit two : Indoor PE kit - Shorts, House colour polo top (red for my DS's), plain black plimsolls.

Kit three : Outdoor PE kit - Navy track suit trousers, white polo top, Navy sweatshirt, plain (no logos or colours) black trainers.

I am rather peeved. Doing that twice over is NOT cheap!

Quip · 27/08/2012 10:36

Oxfordmumoftwo do you by any chance have a business interest in these wonderful and brilliant nametapes? It's a bit unusual for someone to join mumsnet and then post five times on the same subject, on five different boards, within the space of 10 minutes...

colditz · 27/08/2012 10:41

If she's on school dinners, then unless she's a tidy eater or you use a tumble dryer, you'll need another uniform

mummyloveslucy · 27/08/2012 19:32

No, she's not a tidy eater and we don't have a tumble dryer. I'm off to the uniform shop. Wink

Good idea to put a picture on her peg and tray. Smile

DD1 used to come home from a day at special school, and I'd be amazed that her uniform was relatively clean. It was only when I saw her end of year books, with photos, that I saw the teachers put waterproof aprons on all the children before they eat! Grin

No further advice, but just wanted to say good luck Lucy - have lurked a bit, and really hope she has fun.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 27/08/2012 20:44

Good luck, Lucy! Hope all goes well Smile
