A common task for mums new to primary, I believe! What's best to use? And mire importantly, why can't they simply wear a plastic painting apron???

Thanks! Presume you cut the sleeves down and attach Velcro or similar at the back?

I'm a teacher. You just send an old adult shirt. The children wear them backwards (buttons at the back) and roll up the sleeves. Just remember a name label Grin

I tailor the sleeves to match the child, with a pair of shears.
I also label them with a sharpie in big letters.

I used to get them to decorate it with a picture so they knew it was theirs...

From memory, my painting shirt (25+ years ago Blush) had a couple of patches of velcro on the back to stop it falling off the shoulders. The sleeves were just rolled up to fit.

Oh, and it still didn't stop me getting paint on my shirt sleeves.....

Cherylynne · 21/08/2012 12:22

i just send in a huge old T-shirt and a peg to hold it a bit better at the back.

BerthaTheBogBurglar · 21/08/2012 12:30

I sent one of these
painting apron

Waterproof, long sleeves with cuffs, velcro at the back, and most importantly, no sewing.

schools ask for old shirts because it doesn't involve any cost to parents but of course you are free to send in a bought painting apron

SlinkyPebbles · 21/08/2012 21:07

Bloody hell!

Adds painting shirt/apron to list of forgotten to sort out things for school.

While we're at it, any recommendations for girls' white P/e shorts and a decent lunch bag?

That was a Pissydust inspired query!

Not sure about the shorts - white for PE Shock but I have bought DD a cool bag style lunch box for her, much to her disgust it isn't from Asda or pink as I think every other lunch box may be from Asda and pick do I havre got her one from eBay in a pastel colour with her full name embroiled on the front.

I have also sewn bits of dark blue cotton onto the thick part of the bottom of her white socks so she can find her socks after PE. I'm praying no on else does this!!

I wanted to sew her name badges on so she can use them as a hook but I won't have time so iron on they will be.

I still don't have coat, PE stuff or shoes....... Argh

PissyDust not all schools ask for painting shirt/apron, we provide them for our pupils.

CouthyMow · 22/08/2012 10:19

SlinkyPebbles - Tesco do white cycle shorts, would that be any good?

CouthyMow · 22/08/2012 10:20

Lunch bag I find the Smashbox ones from Tesco last well, and you can turn them inside out to clean the seams. They are fairly expensive, but the ones I have have lasted 2 years so far and are still going strong!
