It's really hard to think of new games/activities when you are doing phonics every day, I need inspiration! Thanks Smile

I thought I was offering good advice ...hardly the crime of the century,

As a literacy coordinator I would say the same to the staff in my school I'm sorry I offended

Sorry, I'm not a teacher and so shouldn't have replied to your thread.

I didn't mean to upset you.

I hope you manage to teach all your kids to read and spell this year.

The thing is my five year old CAN read and spell and no longer needs a phonics program. Ah well, won't bother to try and help again.

Mrz
I would expect by Y2/3 most to be secure with all alternative ways to write the 44 sounds
They may know all the main spellings for the 44 sounds, such as 'note boat', 'main lane', 'scoop soup', but they will to have keep on learning in which words use which - which they will have to keep doing for the rest of their time in education, even at uni.

U could teach/revise each day a few words from the spelling areas which are least predictable and are responsible for the majority of spelling errors, such as:
/air/ sound (there/their, hair, care, bear), /ee/ (seek, speak, shriek), /er/ (her bird learned to turn), long /oo/ (blue shoe flew through too)...

Masha ...of course they will continue learning as we all do (well beyond university)
With a million plus words in the English language I don't think anyone can claim to know how to spell them all. [rollseyes]

Sorry kitsonkittykat I didn't mean to offend (seems I had a day for it yesterday) but Explode the Code is an American programme that doesn't fit with the programme the OP is using)
