My family are moving to Scotland within the next 2 years. I have a 7 yr old and a 5 yr old. We haven't decided which area yet, so I am trying to find information on good schools. Not having much luck. Any websites I can check out. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks

Also have a look on ASPC it's Aberdeen's property guide.

Also in Scotland the house prices are offers over. The price they go for could be up to 10% more.

For stunning scenery, I would check out Stonehaven just down the coast from Aberdeen and 25 minutes on the train - no idea about the schools though.

I am in Dundee if there is anything you want to ask, I don't know very much about the secondary schools as my dc are still at primary!

Areas outside aberdeen that are nice - Banchory, kintore, oldmeldrum, alford.

The East coast has the haar to contend with - a lot of days are foggy when it's beautiful sunshine 10 miles inland. I personally prefer Aberdeenshire to Angus,( but haven't lived in Angus admittedly)

I work in Education, there are good schools in the majority of council areas, normally to be found in the outer suburbs of citys. HMI inspection reports can found for all schools, but remember the scottish education system is still undergoing changes with the introduction of Curriculum for Excellence, so some school reports are not as glowing as they would have been under the old system.

I would avoid Angus (Brechin and Montrose) apart from Monifieth High,

I just jumped into this thread by chance, hopefully my insight can provide some value to anyone who happens to do the same!

First thing is obviously to choose your area, after that if you're looking at state schools check the Scottish Government's site to review school reports. You can easily search any state school here - education.gov.scot/what-we-do/inspection-and-review/Reports

Once you've found schools in your area just skim over the reports, they're pretty revealing and it's easy to pick up on good/bad schools.

There aren't really towns/cities which are extremely good/bad for school quality. It more reflects the quality of the area you move to, so that's the more important choice as a first move.

If you're looking for private schools the following page is quite good and covers the whole of Scotland for tuition fees, background information etc. - www.educators.co.uk/scotland/

Hi all... so just jumping in here, any suggestions for good school areas to invest to buy a 3-4 bed property in...and then rent on in 2-3 yrs. Apparently east renfrew has the best schools. But would have liked somewhere that has nice scenery, village feel or just smelt of cowpat lol. Budget is aprox £250,000.

We have a 3.5 yr old, 2 yr old and a 5 month old. So personally interested in good
good primary and nurseries.. .but for investment reasons good all round schools and stations etc is inportant

Hubby needs to be able to get into glasgow within about 45 min.. or he could transfwr to edinburgh i guess

We loved the foothill villages near stirling but not sure how that was in terms of investing for rental and also for schools

Any info or advice would be really appreciated.

Montrose Academy and Forfar Academy both 'good' schools. Forfar in particular has a reasonably high number of ex pupils returning as teachers. Gives the school a continuity and positive ethos. Lots of extra cirricular activites offered also.
