I have some good news to share with those of you who are following my DDs lack of progress.

Finally her spelling is starting to improve.

  • To show you the progress, here is some of her older work:

May '11 (Y3 - 8 years old)

In seepowrs a grol cood base has a sist own day mum is feding lile ougt lile is spiting ti alt and briying to bawn hr flun waw avig her ran arawb mum was say het your yogt pap in a bady vos

no my sist is not a baby not at ol she 11

(In sleepovers a girl called Daisy has a sister. One day Mum is feeding Lilly yoghurt. Lilly is spitting it out and dribbling it down her front, waving her arms around. Mum was saying 'eat your yoghurt' in a baby voice.

No my sister is not a baby. Not at all. She's 11.)

  • Then you can see no real progress for the next year.

Nov '11 (Y4)

Mum giving me arm bands and rubber ring. But dad is the opposite. He can't wait. Mum keeps on embarrassing me but dad was the first one in. I wish we didn't bring mum)

  • And finally, finally, this holiday, she's starting to make progress:

that's great Indigo - you are an inspiration to those of us who are flagging with supporting our kids and thinking, will it ever get better... yes it will!

Excellent Indigo. Is your DD pleased with herself and how her work has improved? I hope so Smile

Idohaveoneofthese · 09/08/2012 18:15

Great news indigo, she is very blessed to have a mum like you in her corner.
You were a great help last year with my DD2.

IndigoBell · 09/08/2012 18:25

DD was never aware how bad her spelling was - because she couldn't read she didn't realise she couldn't spell.

She said to me 'I don't know why I have to read my work to Miss M - Miss M is good at reading' Grin

And now, she's not aware she's getting better. She doesn't believe me either. Too many years of false praise from too many people......

I think that you are an amazing woman. Your dedication to understanding and sorting out your daughter's problems is inspirational. Well done to you and your dd. I hope she reaps the benefits this school year and beyond.

Thank you so much for sharing this Indigo, your children are blessed to have you for a mum.

jalapeno · 11/08/2012 18:39

That's fantastic news Indigo. Well done both of you Smile

greenwichgroove · 11/08/2012 23:26

Well done indigo!! My dd1 is same school year and about where yours was in April so you have given me hope.

IndigoBell · 12/08/2012 08:16

Greenwich - don't take hope from DDs story. Take action.

She didn't get better because she's older. Or because school taught her.
Or because I worked with her at home.

She's improved because of the huge amount of different things (therapies etc) I've done with her.

I have been looking at things as from what I have read on other threads it all sounds so similar, but school are not really pro active, nhs waiting lists are long and all the things I have looked into are so expensive :(
