Agh, I'm so worried about blubbing like a loon on DS1s first day!

OK, so since having kids, I'm more emotional. Also, DS2s 5am wake up every day inevitably means I'm more tired and I show tiredness by blubbing.

Disclaimers out of the way.

I'm worried about crying on DS1s first day. Any tips? DH is happy to work from home and take him - I'm thinking of doing this, as I think it will have less effect on DS1 (who is very much a daddy's boy, so wouldn't blink an eye about me not being there).

Anyone else the same or am I just being pathetic?

Wear sun specs, hug n run.
Teachers will give cuddles and reassurance. DS described his yr1 teacher as huggy. Grin

Drinking water is a fab idea, thank you. I have never heard of that, thank you.

I actually feel a bit more composed about it all now, I'm getting him to try on various bits of uniform daily, so I get used to seeing him in it.

Shelley - I do too worry that the innocent stage is now behind him. That makes me feel sad too.

DH is now coming with us on day 1 and I've asked him to lead with the goodbyes and showing DS1 where to go etc. It's the physical act of actually leaving DS1 that I'm not looking forward to.

It makes me very sad. Dh is also coming along on the first day, so at least he can do the physical taking into the room if it is too much. last thing I want is to upset ds because I'm crying! I hope that this is one of those situations that isn't actually as bad when it happens as you imagine it to be.

It is the end of an era. I will miss not having dd1 home for lunch everyday and how will I cope without her constant commentry of her day. I'm going to be a mess

You may be 'lucky' and get what me and ds saw on first day...a poor child with mum, dad, two sets of grandparents plus a few others, dad with camcorder, child made to walk through school gate 3 times to get best shot, then huge dramatic goodbyes from all...me and ds so enthralled we totally forgot why we were there...one year on it's the thing that sticks in my mind most about first day. Needless to say, school fab,all thoughts of nursery long gone..if school is good within a weekyou'll be fine. Chewing gum stops tears too. Ar school gates and if peeling onions Smile

Oh annabel that sounds great! I wish we had a drama like that Grin

I work in the school office and usually stand by with my box of tissues for the sobbing Mums as they leave. Trouble is, they make me fill up too! Blush

Thank god I'm normal!
My DD starts school on Thursday (we're in Scotland) and I'm an emotional wreck.
She's bubbling over with excitement and I'm just blubbing all the time.
I am going to miss her sooo much and hate the idea that she'll be at school more than at home. I already can't wait for the October holidays.....
I've been all sentimental the last few days thinking back to when she was born and little. I suspect I'm not very good at cutting the apron strings!
I have another DD at home but this is also making me think about having another baby too.
DH seems to be taking it in his stride and told me yesterday that actually it's not about me, it's about her and she is ready and needs this new challenge.
I hate it when he's right....
