Okay,ds1 is 4 and is due to start reception in September. Thing is we will be moving somewhere for 3 months and then somewhere else after that(long story, this can't be helped unfortunately, and I'm not too keen on all the moving about).
I did think at first that if I put him into a school there and then move again that he would adapt and be absolutely fine, it's just a case of getting him into the routine of school,to make some new friends as we don't know anyone there. However,at his last day of nursery yesterday I received an exercise-type book and in the front there is a chart of what he's shown to be doing.
I had no idea how little he had been shown to do and now the schools broken up I can't even talk to any of the nursery teachers. For instance he didn't show that he can listen, that he can talk about things, that he can ask for help,he an work in a group, find out what I need to do with my work etc etc etc.
I'm not saying he's perfect,he isn't,I just thought he was doing better, and now I'm doubting starting in a school for such a short period of time and perhaps delaying the start until we have settled into the new place we are going to and he will be a bit older and perhaps start to do those things in a school environment.

Sorry if I rambling,I'm just unsure if he would be happier to start with his peers for those few months or just to leave it after Christmas. Any help would be gratefully received

Sunce he doesn't have to start until 5 yrs I would delay it until you are settled.

For a start I wouldn't worry about his shown progress. The EYFS targets cover the whole of Foundation Stage. Also FWIW my very nearly five year old couldn't do some of those things starting school and is doing extremely well at school having just finished Y4.

After that I would do what you are comfortable with.

Another option would be to send him to nursery for a few months - you can still access your 15 hours. But Reception and Nursery should follow the same playbased curriculum anyway.

Thanks for both your messages.
Exoticfruits I was leaning towards that but I worried that he would miss socialising, 3-4 months with just dd who is 3 and just me seems like quite a long time?

Muststartexercising(like the name) thanks for the reassuring words, was a bit shell shocked and bit frustrated that I didn't have the opportunity to speak to the teachers before breaking up to discuss progress.
Tbh I didn't even think of nursery, maybe that would be better than him going in ft reception, and then moving again, thanks for the idea Smile

I would suggest the nursery-my Aug born DS just stayed there a bit longer.
I think that all the change will be worse than missing out on the socialising, for what is a very short time.
