4c last year... 4c this year

dd finished year 3 on 4c in English, now this year she is down as 4c for English again. When I asked the teacher about it she said that that was the test result but that dd was working at a higher result in class. But she hadn't said that until I asked! What would you make of it?

According to our y4 teacher, some teachers inflate grades, leaving the following teacher in a tricky situation... Teachers are put under a lot of pressure to show progress, all to do with levels, and it can lead to unnecessarily stressful situations for parents and children. Emphasis should be on inspiring kids at primary level imho.

Thank you, that is interesting.

I could be wrong but I thought it was meant to be based on the teacher assessment over the year not just one test and that the teacher should report the level that she is normally working at.

Kids were sent up to me with totally inflated grades! Very frustrating.

I seriously wouldn't worry about it in any case - if she is now genuinely a solid 4c, that is great for end of Year 4 - the national average expected at the end of Year 4 is a 3b. Clearly she is a bright girl and performing, so nothing to worry about :)

when you say english do you mean reading, writing or combination

both my DDs had good results end of year 3 (like your dd) but then stalled for a bit on the writing as it becomes much more about maturity then following the technical rules of writing

if it is a combined english score then our school would give the lower score (but will always split it if we ask)

Ouluckyduck · 19/07/2012 10:42

I think it is a combination.
