Summer Holiday Experiments

Ds2 has just finished y1 and really enjoys doing "experiments."

He has loved making icecream by shaking a bag of flavoured milk which is in a bag of ice and salt. We've done the making a raisin bob up and down in a bottle of lemonade and making a volcano too.
We've also cooked play-doh.

Can anyone recommend any others?

I know that there are Horrible Science kits but I'd prefer something that can be done cheaply with objects in my cupboards.

Cling film a speaker, lay it on its back, fill the speaker cone with cornflour&water gloop.
Play really bassy music, and the gloop "dances" as the shock waves move through it.
I do challenges, such as:
Can you drop a raw egg from an upstairs window without it breaking? (points for style, speed and innovation)
Make the tallest structure from marshmallows and raw spaghetti.
Make a Lego car that can travel the furthest/fastest/straightest.

These are fab ideas :o

We've made our own butter before - just put double cream and a pinch of salt into a smallish bottle (wide necked so you can get it out at the end!), put the lid back on and shake. Takes about 15 mins of shaking to get it to seperate, tastes lovely, and you can use the buttermilk to make muffins with once you're done, too.

I like the butter idea - you can make soft cheese at home too, I must find a recipe for DD.
