If this were AIBU, I probably am, but just vaguely frustrated by dd's end of year report which seems (as ever) to contain lots of words that don't actually tell us very much.
Maths is typical: "X is able to solve mathematical problems confidently. Sometimes she searches for a solution by trying out ideas of her own. X is able to recognise and order negative numbers. She is able to recall multiplication facts up to 10 x 10 and use them appropriately to solve various multiplication problems. X is developing her ability to multiply and divide whole numbers by 10 and 100 using her understanding of place value. X is able to find perimeters and areas of shapes . . ."
and it continues in the same vein for another half a paragraph.
I can take from this that they are pleased that dd has finally learnt and remembered her times tables, and I assume from the first sentence that she is generally doing OK at maths, but frankly is it unreasonable to feel that the rest doesn't really tell me anything, given that I haven't a clue what they should be able to do at what age?
All the subjects are the same, BTW, although dd's translation of "X is beginning to understand the importance of stillness and quiet during times of reflection and prayer" ('they mean I don't sit and talk to my friends and wriggle so much as I used to when they say long boring prayers in old fashioned Welsh that none of us understand') did make me
