Does anyone have any experiences with their child having job share teachers?

Did it work? Any issues? One of mine seems to have 2 sharing teachers next year.

My two youngest both had job sharing teachers for one of their junior years. I found it worked really well as each teacher seemed to put more than 50% effort and time into their job. Some of the parents of one of my sons friends did moan about it but they tended to be quite negative about school anyhow.

My eldest did for year 1 and it worked really well. He got two times the enthusiasm, twice the freshness, twice the experience and ideas etc. It worked well for those kids who didn't click with one of the teachers as they only had them part time. I wouldn't hesitate to have another of my children in a jobshare class.

mine have. Only trouble was when BOTH got pregnant during the school year....

But it had worked really well til then :)

Agree that both teachers often put in more than 50%

My dd1 had this 4 times through Primary. Fantastic years.
Some of the parents moaned before the first one, but didn't after that - they realised what a bonus it is - you get far more than 50% from each of them, a "fresh" teacher half way through the week, and they tend to work to their own strengths - so if one is musical or artistic or whatever, they take the lead on that, and the other takes the lead on something they are stronger at, so you get more than one specialism.

We've had no problem with it, and if one is sick you only get supply teacher for two or three days rather than longer. Also one teacher we had full time and she was often sick, part time she hasn't been off at all.

We had a job share a couple of times. It worked fine. No PPA cover as they did each others, hardly any supply teachers as they covered each other for courses. One teacher taught science and PE, the other geography, history and RE. They covered different Maths and Literacy topics as well, eg one would do rounding, multiples of 10 etc, the other would be doing shape and space. Both seemed to have plenty of enthusiasm, and (dare I say it) both had become 'nicer' teachers since having their own DC... Wink

I've been a job share teacher and it worked really well - I'm passionate about drama so did most of the literacy/drama side but I hated teaching RE and music so she did all that.

It was great and the parents had no complaints either.

Ds had job share in reception and it was awful. There was obviously some anonmosity between the teachers and they didn't communicate with each other very well at all.

He's had job share again in year 2 (different teachers) and they have been fantastic!

DC have had this lots, no issues.

Dd1 has had job share teachers this year (Y1) and it seems to have worked well. What I struggle with is that as I work part-time I only do drop-off/pick-up one day a week - it hasn't really been a problem this year but next year she has 1 teacher working only Mondays and the other Tues-Fri. This means I will only ever meet the teacher who isn't actually teaching her very much. That does make me slightly anxious about what I will do if any minor problems come up, eg we had some bullying issues early this year and I would want to discuss that sort of thing with her main teacher but would have to make a formal appointment to do so. Having said that, job share teachers tend to be mums of younger children and so understand more that if you work you can't be at every school event/trip - dd1's Mon-Weds teacher has been brilliant about helping me organise things so for example I went in to look at her work this afternoon after school as I can't go to 'celebration afternoon' tomorrow.

My youngest will have 2 teachers job sharing from September. Considering that her current teacher has spent most of this academic year off sick (currently off having fallen and hurt her knee doing a handstand in class) I think the job share can only be an improvement.

My first experience was brilliant...when DS was in Y4 he was in a very, um "lively" class, but teachers were full of enthusiasm, and never seems to get worn out.

The following year, DS2 had two teachers, neither of whom seemed to really know him, at parents evening couldn't remember if he was on school action, and were unable to write his IEP, as they just didn't know him. (Luckily I was quite capable of writing his IEP) - Overall very disappointing.

DD then had two teachers in reception, both brilliant, both able to cover when the other was off, so never any need for a supply teacher, which was brilliant.

This year DS2 has had a job share. He liked one teacher (3.5 days), and worked really hard for her, disliked the other (1.5 days(, and did nothing for her. In a way I was annoyed he had to have the one he didn't like for the 1.5 days, but I guess he could have had her all week, and the whole year would have been a disaster.

Overall, I would be quite happy for my DC to have two teachers again. (And I am quite precious about these things!)
