year 3 nc levels

So what is average/above average for year 3? I had heard conflicting info.
Asking as dd was suppossed to have started year 3 on 3b's and is still on 3b in some subjects according to her. This worries me a little.
Her report states she is working above expected level (mostly) for her age so would that make her 3a or 3b?
Realise I will probably have to ask one of her teachers.

Expected level for the end of y3 is 2a/3c, so she could be working at either 3b or 3a to be working above expected levels.

Thank you. Will probably ask teacher what her level is and more importantly to confirm she has made some progress.

Is the expected progress in Y3 smaller than the expected progress between Ys 1&2 then? I assumed that as the expected level for Y2 is 2b then it would be 3b for end of Y3?

My DS went up 1 sublevel in everything between yr 2 and yr 3 (except writing) - this was considered normal progress. He went up 2 in writing, and this was considered excellent progress.

Expected progress in KS2 is one level per TWO years - i.e. roughly one and a half per year.

So what if they were a 3c at the end of Y1 so technically still KS1, what would be the expected progress for Y2?

2b is the expected level for Year 2 and 4b for Year 6. That extrapolates to 2a/3c for Year 3, 3b for Year 4, 3a/4c for Year 5. So three sublevels progress evry two years. Obviously not all children progress in a linear fashion - you will tend to get times when they make big leaps forward and certain things 'click', often followed by times when they are consolidating their understanding. My DS2 stood still for two years according to levels on reading at 3b - although I knew he was reading better, more complex texts etc. But he was finding the framing of comprehension hard. The following year he was marked at 4a - so although it looked like he stood still, he was actually preparing for a big leap!

My DS hardly made any progress at all in yr 1, then made 2.5 years progress in year 2. It jumps about a lot! I wouldn't get too hung up on how much is expected in a year, rather how much in a keystage.

My ds1 went from 2c last year to 3c this year in year 3 maths.Strangely he got 2c in a test he did at easter and 3c in the QCA tests this summer.Having been very behind, maths has just clicked for him [typical boy].Sadly his twin sister got 3a [and is good at everything with 4's or 3a's].In these very early years children progress at very different rates and its very important not to compare the children with others[which is inevitable i know].

What year was your son at this time, singinggirl? My dd (y4) has got L4c writing but only L3a reading, and I hope she does leap at Y5!
