ds starts reception in september and is having packed lunch. they have said that they need to be able to take the lids off everything themselves, and I can't find any little pots that he can get the lids off, for raspberries, strawbs etc. I'm so sorry and fully acknowledge that I am now the most boring person alive.

not very brown, cling film stops it oxidizing... Ds doesn't care and eats it.

I have just bought more of these as pressies:
www.amazon.co.uk/Easylunchboxes-Single-Compartment-Lunch-Boxes/dp/B004S129AQ/ref=sr_1_81?ie=UTF8&qid=1342299942&sr=8-81

Only one lid to open and looks very appealing when whole lunch on show!

What about using a bento box? You can put soft fruit in a silicone holder - or use the ones for baking muffins.

Handy banana tip - put a small cut halfway through the stem where you peel it. It's just enough to get them started without fully opening the banana.

mommosttraveled.com/bento-done-that/ DS has this lunchbox... I'm rather excited to have found a picture of it. DS's is blue and Much abused, the clear bit of lid is gone, teh lid is covered in stickers.. but still the box soldiers on. its been in regular use for 3 years now.

He has a steel hip flask full of squash and a biscuit in the lower section, sandwiches and fruit etc in upper

Have you tried £ shops they are quite good with this sort of things.

Go for quality. I'm still using the Tommy Tippee weaning pots for my DCs packed lunches, and the oldest one is 15.

OP - I think you should send something a little more robust than raspberries and strawberries in packed lunches.

(And my DH uses the Avent bottles with the flat rubber tops for taking his milk into work for his coffee. I also use them on picnics. They're just the best leak-proof containers for any liquid.)

Sistema bottles and boxes are really easy to open. My DD has tiny hands and is the weakest five year old around but can manage them.

Morrisons had the tomee tippee weaning pots for a £1 during their baby/toddler event (pack of 3 or 4 pots)

Another vote for lock and lock (or Asda cheap version). Both my DDs (4 and 5) can open them no problem.

They soon learn to open things when the option is a long wait!
