Weight/eyesight/hearing test at school...

Recently DS in Reception had a 'check -up' with a nurse , with his measurement, weight, eyesight and hearing checked. DS has had glue ear when he was little, and has had since then 4 hearing tests and although he did have glue ear initially it cleared up and his hearing has been testes by audiologist and he was fine (that was last year). Now, the test for his hearing has again come back 'failed' in the school test. Does anyone know what the hearing test at school consisted of? Many thanks!

Did the letter just say that he had failed and not say what they were going to do about it ie refer him? My DD had one of these last week and passed and said it was just like the ones at the hospital (she has grommetts at the mo). Is he still under the care of the audiologist? If not speak with the GP about referring him. there is no harm in having anohter hearing test.

He was discharged from ENT. I don't know how many test he will need for the NHS to put grommets in TBH I am a bit pissed off about it all. He has had glue ear on and of since he was 2 and he has a severe speech disorder, on top of other (minor) physical dissabilities. Sorry I've just had a couple glasses of wine and I'm a bit emotional! I don't know what it will take for the NHS to give him grommets. How did it work for your daughter?

the letter says that he will be reviewed in a few weeks time, but school is finished now. So I guess he wont.

Take him to the gp and get a referral. We seemed to take the express route as my daughter failed a community test, then the hospital test. She then had a month long course of antibiotics, another failed hearing test. Then booked in for grommets. Took about 10 months from first test to op. From what I understand if she hadn't failed the hearing tests she wouldn't have been offered grommets even with glue ear.

But now she has grommets and they have done their job were waiting patiently for them to fall out (they've been in about a year longer than expected) otherwise she will need an op to remove them.

Take him to the gp and show them the letter.

We had a call from the nurse after DD failed her hearing test in Reception. We were sent an appointment for the local community clinic within weeks as their tests are mosre thorough with more detailed equipment etc.

She was assessed there as borderline hearing loss in both ears and after another similar test 6 months later we were referred on the the hospital ENT consultant. She is now leaving Yr 2 and the hearing in the right ear is now normal but still a bit down on the left.

She suffers from congestion behind the ear drum and as its only mild glue ear and her hearing loss is not major they won't consider grommets as their thoughts are that she will "grow out of it", which she seems to be doing.

I have noticed that she has been more likely to have a bad result if she's suffered with a cold/infection close to the time of the test.
