Has anyone used Attachatags? Are they worth it?

attachatags

Apparently, appropriating others' school uniform and snipping tags has happened quite a bit at DS's new school (total hearsay) and I'm a bit worried about having to replace sweatshirts etc, so I was wondering about some sort of non-snippable tag facing out to be seen, and I came across these. Or is this just OTT?

Otherwise I was planning on a laundry pen-a-thon in front of the telly one evening!

I think they look great, BUT would a school look for them?

I sewed name tapes into to collars of all ds' stuff and use sharpie on the waistband of sweatshirts, as they're the maij target for theives sadly.

Flibbertyjibbet · 13/07/2012 19:40

Well I found the website a bit of a pain cause I just wanted to see what they looked like. Watched the video of how to attach them - if my sons had those things stuck to the labels in the back of their sweatshirts I am sure they'd find it very uncomfortable.

Also, you could just cut the label off with the tag attached if you wanted someone else's item.

I think your option of a laundry pen is a far cheaper and more practical option. I also write on the inside of the actual garment, along the hem or just below the collar. Iron on labels can be peeled off and sew on labels can be removed.

To answer your question though, yes, totally OTT.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 13/07/2012 19:46

If you can't see marks from the outside, how do you know another child is wearing your child's sweatshirt?

And yes, agree re attaching them to the labels, but I think you can also attach to the fabric itself, so perhaps on the outside of the bottom of the sweatshirt?

Having said this, I suspect I will revert to far easier option, which is laundry pen which I already own!

Thanks for replies

I was beyond thrilled to have found what seemed the answer to my prayers 2yrs ago.I HATE sewing, can't sew and therefore don't.
However, these things were very difficult to attach to any garment thicker than a shirt, several came loose/lost their "pin" bits and the ends of my tags fayed.

Opted for some brilliant stick on ones, laundry marker, rubber stamp and decided to hell with labelling socks!

I have one, and this is it's maiden voyage.

I've put them on DS's lunchbag, bookbag, and PE bag.

I'm also writing all over them with my trusty sharpie.

I think the idea is that you put the tag where you can't snip it out - so in the actual garment itself.

Are they easy to use? Whereabouts on the bags have you put them-on the straps?

IllegitimateGruffaloChild · 13/07/2012 20:06

Yep - easy to use.

I put them on the corners of the book/pe bags, and on the lunch bag handle.

Means you cannot take them off without wrecking the item.

Oh actually - you could take one off it you have the gadget Hmm that would be one determined thief though!

FitByForty · 13/07/2012 20:15

We have used them for DD this year and I'm pleased to report that we haven't lost one item at all Smile
Really easy to attach. Easy to take off again with the gadget so they have been reused throughout the year as DD has grown out of things too.

AppleAndBlackberry · 13/07/2012 20:16

What stick on ones did you get whoosh?

letseatgrandma · 13/07/2012 20:19

That's fab-thank you! Have you done the uniform as well?

I was wondering if it's better to do the clothing itself or the washing label?

IllegitimateGruffaloChild · 13/07/2012 20:54

Well the label can be cut out...

I have ironed on labels underneath the collar so they can be easily seen but not easily defaced.

The attachtags can be put on clothing (think skirt hem), but I'm not sure it'd be reasonable to expect teachers to look there on clothing.

mummytofive · 14/07/2012 11:03

we use stick on name ones, by planetlabel or labelplanet?! cheap and effective, the only time they have come off clothes is when i have run the iron over them by mistake! i stick them to clothes, bookbags, lunchboxes, drink bottles, shoes, show n tell items. really handy to grab and stick at 8.30 in the morning! when my dd1 was little, she is 23 now, we had a problem with jumpers and even coats going missing and turning up on a certain child the following week, so i did the ususal name tag, only cash sew-in in those days, but also wrote dd name in her left sleeve of everything with a permanent marker pen. i then asked the teacher that i thought that dd jumper had gone home by mistake with another so after p.e could she ask the children to check the sleeves. the mum was one you would not ask. this seemed to get a few bits back. i dont think its a problem that will ever go away. very frustrating.

spammertime · 14/07/2012 11:16

I used them this year on DS's uniform and they've been great. Not a single one has come off. They are v easy to do once you've got the knack of it.

I do put them on the label as I assume that's where teachers would look - our labels are black so render my sharpie pen useless. Yes I guess someone could rip the label off but he hasn't got an expensive uniform yet and so it's been worth the risk. I guess with something like a blazer I'd write all over it too.

I like the fact you can reuse the tags (you would need new backs) and with our unusual surname I'm hoping they'll last the course.

So yes I'm v happy and would recommend

IllegitimateGruffaloChild · 14/07/2012 13:40

Yes - I just got surname on our tags too (in brown) so I can use them for both children.

whooosh · 14/07/2012 14:00

AppleandBlackberry - I am rubbish as I can't remember Blush but they were specifically for fabric, not like the usual ones used for sports bottles etc. My personal favourite was the "rubber stamp". Not cheap but used it in all DD's polo shirts. The ink DID fade over time but it was dead easy to just stamp them again.Didn't show through the shirt either. I agree that unless the child and/or the teachers know where to "hunt" for the labels then it is pretty useless "hiding" them.
It is awful that people steal uniforms but it does happen, especially where uniform is specific and therefore expensive.
I buy all DD's uniform secondhand from the uniform shop at school as I simply can't afford to pay £38 for a kilt for a 7yr old Shock
Fortunately her polo shirts are generic so I can at least buy those and socks in Tesco/Asda etc.

SophiaWinters · 14/07/2012 15:07

I've used attachatags. They worked well in that they were easy to attach to clothing, fabric pencil cases, bags, plimsoles etc. But I don't use them anymore because DC complained that the tag irritated them (I attached the tag to the inside labels of the garments at the neck and side seam of shirts and sweaters). They still use them for bags and pencil cases and have lasted well. For clothing I now use a good old permanent marker pen written onto the garment label - easy, effective and quick.
