Just had DS1's report, and thought the results would be in it. But they aren't. Do we get told?

I think schools get them tomorrow.

ChickensHaveNoLips · 09/07/2012 21:15

Ah, thanks Lynette :) Do they tell us? Or is it strictly kept in house?

I work in the school office, it's my first job tomorrow to download them, print off individual results which will be sent home with reports tomorrow.
Good luck by the way.

snowball3 · 09/07/2012 21:21

The thresholds are just out, schools already have the papers. Year 6 teachers are feverishly working out percentages, APS scores, floor targets and a whole host of other facts and figures they will need before tomorrow's grilling by the Head ( why do you have only 35% Level 5's in Reading Mrs Snowball? Perhaps because a third of my class are SEN/EALor both. Not good enough Mrs Snowball, what do you intend to do about it? Errm, resign?)

ChickensHaveNoLips · 09/07/2012 21:22

Huh. I wonder why we got the reports before the results?

Ah, snowball. My sympathies

How are the thresholds looking? Is it going to be a tough/average year?

littlelegsmum · 09/07/2012 21:26

Oh Dear, Mrs Snowball. Sounds like a stressful day tomorrow then.

I have called my DDs school to ask this question today, and was told (by office staff) "Oh, I don't know when they're due"

I also asked if anything was marked within the school (could affect support in High School) to be told "I'll find out both and call you back"

I understand she would want to check but does she really think i'm so naive to believe she doesn't know (ps I'm bitter, theres a boring back-story) Grin

snowball3 · 09/07/2012 21:30

Thresholds are pretty much as we expected except for maths which has risen ( and means 2 of my borderlines got level 4 not 5!) but writing and reading are as expected. Level 6 thresholds have shot up! Maths has gone from 25 to 34!

littlelegsmum · 09/07/2012 22:08

Do they get sub-levels (c,b,a) snowball or is it just Level 3,4,5?

daenerysstormborn · 09/07/2012 22:09

schools get them tomorrow, at our school, parents get them wednesday.

A link to this years thresholds that some of you may find useful:)

littlelegsmum · 10/07/2012 20:48

Thank you BooksandBrunch :)

snowball3 · 10/07/2012 20:50

Schools work out sublevels themselves, based on the thresholds given. The results that come back are just a score and a whole level number

littlelegsmum · 11/07/2012 07:25

Ah right, I see now. Thanks for clearing that up snowball.

jennywren123 · 11/07/2012 08:13

Hi, I'm a bit puzzled. Thanks for the link BooksandBrunch. I can see that there are levels for English Reading and English Writing. Does that mean they get three results - English Reading, English Writing, Maths, or are the two English marks combined somehow. How does this work with the Level 6 tests then. Was there not an English Writing test for level 6? Does that mean that she will get three levels, but the English Writing one could only be a maximum of level 5? Just wondering. Confused

Bubby64 · 11/07/2012 21:58

Hi - my 2 got theirs SATs results back today, came as 3 results , a grade and their mark. Must say, I was very pleasently surprised with my twos results, they both did far better than i had expected!!

BooksandBrunch · 11/07/2012 22:01

Hi Jennywren123, no problem regarding the link. So my DS came home with two sheets effectively.

Sheet 1: is the official Sats results, so to speak. There is a main heading for English and two sub headings, Writing and Reading, with a whole number score beside each sub heading. Then one score for Maths, so the first part of sentence is correct.

To get level six, they would needed to have gained at least a level 5 for it to count, as you're probably aware. My ds was told at school, that if any of them had got the level six then it would be on this sheet. My ds got all 5's so I'm assuming he didn't get the level six (not surprising as they literally were only given one specific lesson on the topic whereas at my friends son's school, they had a teacher coming in twice a week just to teach the syllabus.) Still, I'm trying to arrange a meeting with the teacher to be sure. There is poster on another thread who said her ds had passed it and actually knew his score too, so it might be worth checking with her. But I assume the second part of your question is accurate also, as the English test at level 6 comprised of just a reading comprehension.

Sheet 2: Was teacher assessment throughout the year, which also included science and RE in our case, as it's a catholic school.

Idontthinksothanks · 11/07/2012 22:40

Think I might be the poster Books is referring to.

Schools don't tend to share the scores. I found them out via an unusual route (to do with my work). I couldn't help but share them in my exuberence - apologies!

Schools just inform parents of the levels achieved.

BooksandBrunch · 11/07/2012 23:25

@ Idontthinksothanks thanks for coming on board and explaining. Did your school not give you something similar to my sheet 1 with a six on it? Where all you levels just given verbally?

VivaLeBeaver · 12/07/2012 00:03

I got dd's results today but no sub level. So just a 5,5 and a 4. I was expecting sub levels, should I ask the school?

BooksandBrunch · 12/07/2012 00:23

Hi VivaLeBeaver, I'm not sure if all schools give them. Sub levels only appear as part of the Teachers assessment and not part of the actual Sats results. What you received was the official document so to speak.

BooksandBrunch · 12/07/2012 00:35

No harm in asking if the school gives teacher assessments that includes sub levels based on the whole years work, as quite a few schools that I know of do. Thinking about it, the information must exist because the government needs to know the sub levels to measure averages etc. I think I mentioned on another post somewhere that Gove is concerned that the current min. government target of 4c needs to be raised because on average, only 45% of kids who achieve this grade goes on to achieve a level C in gcse's.

MrsS3 · 12/07/2012 01:00

huge thank you for the link to the thresholds, I didn't realise they came out yesterday (durr) when we got our results. Am hugely annoyed now...ds1 got the top mark of 3 in two of I'm Hmm and really hope the teachers use their common sense and he finishes up with 4cs on teacher assessed levels. Sad

seeker · 12/07/2012 07:22

What do you mean, Mrs 53?
