Will the teacher think I'm weird?

I have 25 dk readers books of varying levels that my dc have loved and used for independent reading as they were emerging readers. They weren't cheap, are in great condition and I'd like them to go to a good home I was going to offer them to dc2?s teacher but will she think that's really strange?

Are you offering them to the teacher or for the teacher to have in the classroom.

If they are for the classroom then absolutely fine, no weirdness just gratitude! If they are for the teacher personally then a bit odd unless you are friends with him/her!!

We often get donations to the school or class library, they are welcome if they are in good condition. Giving them to the school means that hundreds of children benefit rather than just a couple, so I think it's a great idea.

As a KS1 teacher I would be thrilled! Why don't you take one/two in to show her and ask if she would interested in that sort of book for her classroom as you have lots more.

I'm sure donations will be very welcome, especially if the books are still current and in good condition. Maybe the school has a library they could go into, but I'm sure each class will have a bookshelf if not. Sounds like a lovely idea!

I just gave school some Usborne Phonics readers we no longer needed - the reception teacher was very grateful!

Ask,
DD1 would have loved you, she's dyslexic and used to search school for alternatives to some bits of the reading scheme.
She'd just hit bits that bored her rigid and were not worth the effort.

Variety is greatly appreciated!

I have loads of books that when DD ( about to start reception) has finished with them I will ask her school if they want them.

Oh great, yes, they are for the classroom.

I think I was overthinking it so I shall just offer.

The school library is stocked by the county library services and books are rotated in and out because they would be perfect for that.

Not weird, I have a large collection of early reader books that we have now outgrown and I was intending to offer them to the school. I just assumed they would be gratefully received (or I would be told they weren't needed) but it didn't occur to me they would think I am weird to offer them.

alphabite · 09/07/2012 14:14

What a nice thought. They won't think it's weird at all. Extra classroom books are always appreciated.

Our school would bite your hand off!

We have just restocked our library, most from donations:)

There is a lot to be said for acquiring a reputation for weirdness with school Grin
