Foundation stage profile - are the scores weighted depending on birthday?

My dd is in reception and has an August birthday. The class reports came out on Friday, along with a summary of the foundation stage profile and points scores. A friend of mine said to me "oh well, of course your dd will score highly as she has an August birthday and they go easy on summer-borns" - is there any truth in this or is the score, the score regardless of when their birthday falls? I can't see how it can be weighted as surely they either fit the criteria or they don't. (Friend doesn't know dd's scores by the way - we were just handed sealed envelopes).....

It isn't weighted on age - all children are assessed on whether they meet the criteria or not. So whatever your DD got is the same as an older child would have got, displaying the same criteria.

Of course there is no truth in that. She sounds like she was trying to boost up her own child if your child scored higher?

I dont think so and from personal experience I have 2 July born dc, one of whom had a dismal EYFS score and has really struggled at school and one who had an exceptional high EYFS and who find learning really easy. Both attend the same school and both have had the same reception teacher so I would say there is no going easy on summer borns

Thanks all, that's what I thought. I think you may be right alphabite, but seeing as I have no intention of sharing dd's points score, or asking about her child's, then I don't know how she'll ever know!

A child needs to evidence each item on the p scales at least 3 times for a teacher/practitioner to consider it achieved. The evidence is noted down and should be added to pupil profiles. If not, ofsted would have field days left right and centre. Your DD must hae met the criteria, otherwise the school would be putting themselves under needlessly difficult circumstances re paperwork...
