Unless the field is literally waterlogged (in which case they couldn't carry on anyway) - why not? Though I'm slightly confused by what the trip involves - they spend the day at a campsite and sleep at school overnight?

hathorisaskingaquestion · 06/07/2012 13:03

But they aren't sleeping outside? Or are they?

I'm confused.

They won't melt in the rain. if they are sleeping at the school they will be warm and dry. Don't understand why you are annoyed.

they will be wet and damp all day just think its dangerous on the roads weve had torrential rain most of the night - a few roads have been closed as well round here. also way too late to eat imo

Unless the trip is in an area with a high weather warning, then I think they should carry on. But the flood risks today are high in several areas, and if going to such an area (or passing through one en route), then it might be prudent to postpone. But if there were a problem at the venue, I would have expected the management to have contacted the school to cancel. As they didn't, I'd hope that means there are no additional safety issues.

It looks as if being damp is something we're all going to have to get used to in the next couple of weeks (have just seen weather item on news - no sign of settled dry weather any time soon).

hathorisaskingaquestion · 06/07/2012 13:12

Well if you're fuming and you think it's that dangerous, you shouldn't have let your child go then should you?

I'm sure they will be fine. They don't melt in the rain. Did your child have a coat and suitable footwear?

And eating late as a one off at aged 6-7 will also be fine.

EdithWeston · 06/07/2012 13:13

X-ed with your post saying you are in an area with road closures already. That is more concerning.

redskyatnight · 06/07/2012 13:13

They won't be wet and damp if they have proper clothing (not such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes ...). I'm sure the staff will be monitoring the road situation and will come back early if there is any worries.

With regards eating, if it's anything like cub/brownie camps they will probably be snacking all day!

Ragwort · 06/07/2012 13:15

Seriously - you are worried about children eating a meal at 8ish? Hmm - it really won't hurt them.

They will be fine, I have been in Scouting for years, we have camped in all sorts of conditions, children love it.

The teachers will have had to do numerous risk assessments etc etc

I don't think the change of venue would worry me - apart from my usual anxiety over dds travelling on coaches. I think it is rather lovely that the teachers are doing their best to give the children a camping experience since they have probably been excited about it.

What would worry me is my 6-year-old going away overnight. That seems very young.
