Dyslexia - self esteem issues

Hello, my DS really struggles with writing and spelling. in October last year we went through the process of investigating and he was dx with "SpLD in spelling, writing and fine motor control" (so basically dyslexia wrt writing - NOT reading as his reading age/comprehension was 12 over 6 months ago).

School have made lots of concessions (1-1 Word Wasp, doing mind maps, using Alphasmart etc), yet we are still getting meltdowns over homework. Yesterday he lost it over writing the title of his homework - TWO WORDS!!!

I am at a loss of how to help his self esteem. He is one of the brightest in his class, and one of the best at reading and maths for example, yet he considers himself stupid, and when I say "you are clever" he sobs back "I am not!" :(

How do I overcome this with him?!

Dd is a little like this - she has memory and concentration issues.

I have found that she is immensely reassured if I recount my own experiences to her and give her a frame of reference so that she can see her own problems are not the end of the world and do not go to her overall worth.

Her problems are with working memory. I have explained that I have a good working memory but a terrible long term memory and have to do things to ensure I can remember things long term. She needs to do things to help her remember in the short term. She attaches a sense of worth to me so if she can see her problems in the same way, it helps her.

Not sure this makes sense, but I know what I mean!
