SA+ & moving school

Hi,
My DD moved school 4 weeks ago, she had an IEP at SA+ level, initiated at her previous school. What I would like to know is, if her new school are obliged to continue with her IEP as they currently show no signs of doing so. Can anybody enlighten me please?

My understanding is that the SENCO should have given a handover to the new school and they should assess/review to see what she needs now. It could be that they are seeing how she is working/settling at the moment so they can make their own assessment.

But I would want to know they are fully aware of any concerns and know she may need extra support. I suspect if she is on SA+ then she is not so likely to suddenly need no extra input.

Maybe make an appt to discuss with the SENCO at the new school and have a chat?

Thank you,
I will make an appointment, just wasn't sure of the procedure around a new school/SA+

I am not an expert at all Smile but I am a parent governor and designated governor for something related so I see the SENCO about things and that is what I would expect to happen, I may be wrong of course. But I would want the reassurance they they haven't forgotten her, just to make sure.

They are not obliged to continue with the same IEP.

They are not obliged to have an IEP at all.

Most schools do use IEPs, but they don't have to.

I would expect her new school to either make a new IEP, or to discuss with you how they are going to support your DD.

Thanks Indigobell,
Just wasn't sure what the procedure was concerning IEPs, but certainly worth discussing with her new teacher then.

Just ask for an IEP review meeting.
