Travel sick children on school trips...

Does anyone else really stress about their travel sick kids going on school trips? My yr2 daughter has gone off to the seaside on a coach today and even though I have done everything I can - given her the phenergan which usually works, she's got sick bags, she's on the front seat, her teacher is fully briefed - but I'm really anxious about it. I just want her to be ok. Can't wait for them to come home.

Ds can be sick on the school run - so yes!

He's fine with Joy Rides travel sickness pills luckily. So far that has worked fine and he's not had any problems on school trips, although he is also sat at the front and always has a box (much easier than a bag!) in his bag just in case. Although on the trip to the seaside I suggested that he used his bucket instead Grin

mistlethrush my DCs school carries buckets on the coach and they've never been to the seaside as long as i've been at the school.

I've been on a few school trips and they always make sure that the ones who get travel sick are fully dosed up and sitting at the front of the coach. No eating on the coach or just before the journeys either.

Try not to worry clux73, i'm sure your DD will have a great time.

One of our Year 6 teacher's tricks is to make any children suffering from travel sickness to sit on a "magic" piece of newspaper. Works most of the time!

I always brief the teachers and have also found that the travel sickness wristbands really work for mine - they know how to put them on properly.

Hurray....home after a sick free day. So relieved.

Pointy - if only! He's been sick on a 20min journey with those 'helping' Confused

THe first time he threw up on the school run (and I did a U turn in the busiest bit of the school run traffic) I had to ring up the school and say that we'd be late because we'd had to go home to get clean clothes (a complete full set). THey were very Hmm about letting him back in until I said that I'd been to the Doctors about it with him - and having seen him when we eventually got there completely full of beans as normal (albeit rather hungry) they decided that it did appear to be travel sickness not something worse and allowed him to come back.

DD in YR.
Not had a coach trip yet, totally dreading it because she always gets sick in ANY vehicle except our car.
buses, coach, friends cars, grandma's car

Never tried any meds. What and where did you get these from?

clux73 · 27/06/2012 21:56

We get phenergan on prescription from the doctor. You give a dose the night before the journey and another dose in the morning. Or you can buy joyrides or traveleeze tablets from a pharmacy. It's a bit trial and error to find the most effective one. I'm definitely a phenergan fan!

I had phenergan as a child. I remember it tasting ABSOLUTELY vile. The dog also had it. She had 2 tsp and I had been cut down to 1/2 a tsp. Grin (We'd tried all the veterinary options which had all failed)

My son threw up on the coach to their team building day yesterday....he survived to tell the tale !

One good thing about frequent car sickness is that DS has learned what the precursor to sickness feels like - and has managed to make it out of bed, yell that he's going to be sick at our bedroom door and make it into the bathroom and be sick down the toilet - from age 5 Grin

I remember having joyrides, even imagining the taste of them makes me gag now. Awful strong taste which just made the anxiety worse, in my experience anyway.

The bands worked for me.

mistlethrush · 28/06/2012 11:46

DS swallows his whole with water. I sometimes have one when I'm feeling queasy in the car too Blush

A piece of newspaper on the seat works every time.
