DS has been given literacy homework based on WWII. He has to make a model with some relevance to the war. None of us here are at all creative... has anyone else had to endure this, and does anyone have any brilliant simple ideas that a numpty like me could assist with ?

An air raid shelter?

RackandRuin · 26/06/2012 20:21

I ment to add, it could be made from a cardboard box and corrugated paper painted grey?

RueDeWakening · 26/06/2012 20:21

Anderson shelter? Sheet of corrugated cardboard, flat cardboard for the front and back walls (cut to a c-type shape), bend the cardboard over the top, ta-da! Spray/paint silver if feeling keen, artfully chuck some plastic ivy or similar over the top, set onto a brown or green base so it looks like garden.

Pics of some here

Or a gas mask, I've just found you some instructions :o

RackandRuin · 26/06/2012 20:24

Rue's would look far better than my effort Grin

wizzler · 26/06/2012 20:36

Brilliant... thanks both... feel a lot less worried about it now !

Airfix model. Ds (age 4yo) loves "helping" with WWII aircraft. We hang them from his ceiling after they're finished. Lying in bed it's like having an airshow over us.

Ration card -not exactly a model though

swangirl · 26/06/2012 22:08

My dd done this earlier this year. She made propaganda posters ie look out in the black out.

You could paper mache a barrage ballon or bomb

shebird · 27/06/2012 20:48

Ration box - shoe box with ration book and some examples of weekly food allowance e.g tea, sugar etc.

ByTheWay1 · 27/06/2012 20:55

We just had this one - it was fab, they did a display in the foyer with the results...

Best ones were - Anderson Shelter, homemade austerity cookies - made with custard powder, charcoal picture of London in the Blitz, map with flags of the countries involved, homemade ration book, posters (dig for victory etc) gas mask box (pg tips covered in brown paper), board like you see in films with little models being pushed around a map - kids (parents) were really inventive.

Make a cake in the shape of an air raid shelter. Or gas mask - they are easy.
