I am just interested, because I like to know! Doesn't concern me directly at all, nosey, nosey passive. However it is likely to concern me next year and would like to know if the sasme thing happens then, if I could use it as grounds for appeal.

So as I understand it if a child gets offered a place at a school for their Reception year the parents must accept the place. If they don't accept, the place is lost and a child on the waiting list is offered the place? Am I correct?

If a school holds a place for a child, but the parent's haven't confirmed that they want it, is this breaking the rules? if the school then writes letters to parents asking them to confirm they want this place, is this breaking the rules too?

I understand this has happened in a very popular school in London, I think parents who already have siblings at the school didn't think they needed to confirm and the school is helping them out. Fair enough, but not fair enough for those who have no school place-so I guess this is where following the rules comes in.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

I don't know but I think the rules are that a reasonable effort has to be made, and that would/could include writing a letter, but usually asking for a response with a certain amount of time.

oh I see, thanks MustStartExercising that would make sense then.

Normally they are asked to accept (or otherwise) their place within two or three weeks. Any declines WILL free up a place to be offered from the waiting list. Any non-respondees however MUST be contacted again and every effort made to ascertain their intentions before assuming they will decline.

So far from breaking the rules they are adhering to them!

Titchy is spot on. The school is following the rules to the letter.

Ah, I see. Thanks for that, yes, I suppose it does make sense.
