Pritt sticks

When chatting to dd's teacher she let slip that her class had been allocated four for the whole term as had every other class. It seems a piffling amount for a class of 36 children.
So I thought at the end of the year I'd fill a box with Pritt sticks and other stuff that is needed but is probably in short supply. Trouble is I'm not sure what else might be appreciated.
So teachers what do you use that would be handy to have alongside Pritt sticks? This is a y3/4 class

Black felt pens
Sellotape in dispenser
Blue tack

But how pathetic that they only have 4. That would last a day in my school

cybbo · 19/06/2012 16:48

Some fancy gel pens to encourage writing would be lovely too

I know, it seems a really well resourced school otherwise ConfusedWe were chatting about dd's IEP when another teacher had got word that she was allocating Pritt sticks and asked how many they had got? I was amazed when she said 4 each class. I asked if they were for herself to use but no, apparently for the children to share.

When the stationery delivery comes we are like a pack of hyenas over a zebra carcass

Cybbo, and in our school!! We then squirrel them away and claim we have nothing!

OP the last school I worked in we were allocated 2 per child a term!

teacherwith2kids · 19/06/2012 17:04

We have delegated class budgets where I work - so I can order as many Pritt sticks as I like as long as my budget balances at the end of the year. So I can, for example, decide that rather than sticking Science and RE work into exercise books this year, we will have simple folders (much cheaper), and if I do that and a couple of other things then that means we can have a really fancy class set of good quality felt tips AND I can buy some new reading books from the Book people. ...

Whiteboard pens! Especially at this time of year...

PatriciaHolm · 19/06/2012 18:51

We are always asked for a box of tissues and a pritt stick at the beginning of each term!

Ineedalife · 19/06/2012 18:59

Insanity, i think that is a lovely idea, felt tips were always the next thing to go after the pritt sticks when I worked in school.

Dd3's preschool used to ask for a box of tissues every term too.

The school I usually work in has started buying very cheap,"value" glue-sticks instead of Pritt sticks. After a couple of uses, they become a sticky mess, and then dry up. Talk about false economy!

melonribena · 19/06/2012 20:58

I would definitely say whiteboard pens, I never have enough and they are always running out! Pritt sticks would also be on my list, as would Lolly sticks, paper plates and split pins! Those things are always useful but rarely ordered from stock

HappyMummyOfOne · 19/06/2012 22:25

Scissors, glue and decent pencil crayons are always needed. Also stickers and small party toys are nice as teachers usually fund these themselves.

LemonMousse · 19/06/2012 22:29

Treasury tags! What our lot do with them is nobody's business. Blutac always disappears quickly too.

clam · 19/06/2012 22:47

My class are like magpies with Blutac! They filch bits off a large blob I keep on the edge of the whiteboard (although not any more!) and fiddle with it.

If you're talking luxury items, I'd plump for an electric pencil sharpener.

BackforGood · 19/06/2012 23:53

One school I worked in gave us all a small amount of money once, to buy something we needed in our classroom - I bought an electric pencil sharpener clam ! It really was heaven. I had queues of children sent on messages from other staff to borrow it on a regular basis Grin.
