Camp for Y2 - would you let your child go?

my daughter is 7 and they have an annual camp for one night at a fairly local area (prob 30 mins away).

Mst of the teachers are going I understand and some parents - Ive asked who the parents are and who will be in a tent with my dd but have been told not been decided yet, just a few parents helping out though.

I havent paid yet and want to find out beforehand as my dd has never camped or in fact stayed away from home before

I would want to know more details first.

From what I know about Cubs/Scout camps - adults do not sleep in with the children in tents. Hopefully that is the same for your group.

You need more information I think.

It does seem quiet young, but if it is an annual event they should have the enough experience of organising it.

I'd want more details too.

As shrimponastick said, Cub/Scout camps they aren't allowed to sleep in the same tents as the children (or room if its huts), but am assuming that is Scout legislation.

If it's an annual camp, I would imagine that they have their safety and organisation sorted out.

I'd have no problem with this - no different from Beavers/Rainbows/Brownies staying away from home.

shrimponastick · 18/06/2012 09:50

Oh shame on me

quite -not quiet.....

ChopstheDuck · 18/06/2012 09:51

does she want to go? If she does, let her!

My dts are 7 and would leap at the chance, except poor dt1 is still in nappies.

It's a school trip, yes?

So it'll be overly well organised, risk assessed and all.

If your DC wants to go then he/she should! It'll be fine.

MarjorieAntrobus · 18/06/2012 10:15

Sorry, should've said DD, didn't read your post carefully enough at first. She will be fine if she wants to go, and so long as you don't put her off! My DC went on a 2 night residential thingy in Y2. it was lovely and they had a great time.

tiredmumma · 18/06/2012 13:36

yes school trip, and yes we have had a meeitng about it all and Im happy with the organisation but I want to know who the parents are and who will be in the tent - there will be 1 adult to every 4 children in tent

surely they must of sorted this by now as its 3 weeks away - Im going to ask again

I would let them -if they wanted to go of course -
and I assume you know many of the parents already - do you have concerns about any of them?
I would have thought who exactly was sleeping where would be was one of those things that was sorted out pretty close to the time - and also it could change - due to all kinds of things

bigTillyMint · 18/06/2012 14:42

If they wanted to, I would let them.

When DS was in Beavers at 6+, they did the occasional sleepover in the scout hut. And when DD was in brownies at 7+ they had the odd couple of nights away in scout places.

Never heard of adults sleeping in with the children though. Are they mad?Grin

madwomanintheattic · 18/06/2012 14:48

Lol at 'they must have sorted this now!'
Erm, how can they have it sorted if parents are still faffing around angsting over whether to let Mildred go?

Most kids are experiencing overnight stuff with beavers or rainbows from 6, certainly with brownies and cubs in y2.

It's one night. If dd wants to go, let her? How will knowing who will be in her tent help you make your decision? Hmm

None of the brownies know who they are sleeping with until they get out their sleeping bags. It depends on who turns up on the day, and how many last minute changes I have to make to my paperwork when leaders drop out at the last minute.

It will be fine. If she wants to go, let her.

(the tent allocation will probably be done the day before... Grin)
