Feeling down about catchment area

Hi, I have always assumed DS will go to a lovely little school around the corner from us, at it is nearest and our next door neighbours' children go there. We have to apply this year so I was idly googling and realised we are no longer in the catchment and it is oversubscribed. Then made mistake of looking at ofsted which gushed about how wonderful it is. He is in a preschool where nearly all the kids will go there.
The alternative isn't bad, just have to get my head around the fact my daydreams of taking him to school there etc will probably not happen now. DH doesn't really understand the issue so just felt like sharing.

It's frustrating, isn't it? We have a lovely school nearby and we're one street outside the catchment, so there was no point even applying. We got into a good school nonetheless.

It might be worth applying anyway? Sometimes they add extra classes without warning, due to demand.

It is frustrating, and I expect our neighbours daughter, same age as DS, will go there as she has siblings there. I suppose I will apply anyway. Is it worth ringing the school to assess our chances do you think?

Yes, give the school a call. Ask them if there is any chance of an extra class being added next year.

I agree, call the school. Our primary is adding an additional reception class this year. This has only just been announced to parents so it is possible that your preferred school are planning this but haven't communicated it widely yet.

Your neighbour's daughter may not go there, it will depend on the sibling policy. Here catchment children will get a place before non-catchment siblings.

I understand your disappointment but sounds like your alternative is an ok school? Remember that what you have been daydreaming about is just that - a dream - your DD may have got into the local school and had a miserable time and on the flipside have an even better time at the school she will go to.
