My Y1 5yo got gastro in March followed by pneumonia, constant sicking pretty much, for weeks. Missed a lot of time of school, although we didn't know what was going on and kept trying school but would either manage one day or four it seemed. Week after Easter, obviously not very well, got ABx, went back Friday and Monday, then awake all Monday night with temp etc. Took her to GP on Tuesday, another week of ABx. Back at school Monday, then I was woken up to the sounds of vomitting, their bedroom was covered, all in her hair, the last of the cot blankets that I'd made the bed up with were covered (we took four bin bags of bedding to the launderette next day!) so I had had enough and took her off to A&E. That's when she was diagnosed with pnuemonia. She had a week off school, went back for four days the following week (Monday was BH) and Sunday night we had to take her back to A&E because she was in pain and had chest pain, she's not been back to school since.
Since then she's seen her paediatrician and he's diagnosed CFS and said she needs a gradual return to school that means not full time until September.
She loves school and learning new things. An example of how much she loves learning, she said that one of the boys in her class draws "x"s like this as she draws it in the air, I made a comment about how else you can draw "x" at big school. As much as I tried keeping answers simple... well... she's now doing algebra for fun! She went back to school for half a day for the party before half term and has done two half days this week. Yesterday she bounced through the door because she was so happy having been.
What can I do to help her keep learning at home? She's one of the youngest in the year (she shouldn't be in that year but prematurity - the reason she has a paediatrician - pushed up a year) so more so I don't want her falling behind. The school send some work home but she does it in a couple of days! Also, what can I do to help support her love of algebra? (love of algebra??? Strange child lol)
