How much would you expect to pay for a private tutor for a 5 yo?

We don't live in the UK at present.

When we return, DD will have missed reception and year one, (but won't have done any formal schooling where we are now, as they start later, so eg she probably won't have learned to read or write).

I am thinking of employing a private tutor for her for literacy and numeracy, so that she won't be too far behind when she eventually goes into UK year 2.

Does anyone have any idea of the approximate cost I should be looking at? I was hoping to do 1 hour a week, 1 to 1.

I know!!! That's why I was so shocked tbh.

I think I need to be a tutor too Grin

When I tried to get DS1 to do some extra work we had shouting and screeching and major objecting from him.

He was calm and responsive to the tutor. It was worth the money.

Why don't you try something like reading eggs? it is an online reading programme. My almost 4 year old picked it up very quickly and can now read and spell very basic words. it has lots of games and he finds it fun.

Thanks again, will look at the online stuff.

I would have to do some serious saving for £30 per hour, so I will try and do stuff myself, at least at first.

I would have thought that part of what you are paying for are lots of nice resources to use, but if you can get them free on the internet... Grin
