KS2 English Help for DD

Hi, any help would be appreciated please.
After my DD's (yr5) last parents evening, we were told that she needs to develop her english skills in all areas. We have explained to her that she needs to read more, which the teacher advised (which she has done) to help her with her english. Today I asked her to do a Sats english writing test, which she happily agreed to, but I could not believe how bad it was. She kept repeating the same sentence and the writing had no structure or planning to it. Reading it, I felt that she has gone back 2 years. What should I do?
Reading through some old threads, someone mentioned the Descriptosarus book, is it any good? Should we hire a tutor? I'm so worried!

Yes, I would hire a tutor. What level is she?

Can't you teach her the basics yourself?

I mean if it's glaringly obvious what's wrong then you could work on writing at home by getting her to write a bit daily and correcting one thing at a time.

How far behind is she?

Get her to read, and write for fun - no pressure. Discuss her work - what she's done well and how she could make it even better. Teach her grammar, spelling, paragraphing, parts of speech - don't assume the school will have done any of this.

Look at authors she likes and discuss the words and structures and plots and humour they've used - what she likes about it. Play word games.

Above all, make it fun and don't make her feel bad about it - help her to develop a love for words, texts and language.

Read her your favourite books/poems etc and say why you like them - share your enthusiasm.

That's what any good tutor would do. A bad one would sit her down with dry workbooks.

Hi, DD is currently at a 3b. We have parents evening in the next few weeks, so I'm hoping she's improved, but after reading her work yesterday, I'm not so sure.
She has just recently started to read more, so I'm hoping that will help. Her reading level is at a 3a. Her teacher said she must start to use more vocab words.
I know she's loves school and always does her homework and projects on time. She will do anything for her teacher, but when it comes to mum and dad explaining how to do things, she looses her temper and won't listen to anything we say.
I have asked her to write a story (DD to choose topic) and have printed out some tips for story writing, to help her improve. She's seems keen, but I don't know how long she will stay interested.
Thanks for the advice, which I will follow, so fingers crossed it works!
