DD has her party tomorrow and we have a hall but had hoped that the kids would be able to go outside for a play in the middle of things, however looks like weather will prevent that. We've got the mummy game ie loo paper wrapping game of each other, but need a couple more. Any ideas please? TIA.

Was going to say Mummy wrap!

Another brilliant one for girls is to put them into teams of three and give each team a load of newspaper and one of those sellotape things that chops it off in small pieces ready to use (so less faffing finding ends). Set a time limit and two of them have to design and make a costume, which the other one must model whilst the other two give the 'Catwalk Voiceover.'

Pass the Parcel with silly forfeits? Ignore her if she says it's babyish - she'd enjoy it once started! :)

looks fun.

Dressing up pass the parcel. Get a bin bag and fill with fancy dress bits and bobs or maybe adult sized hats/gloves etc. Play the same as pass the parcel but pass the sack around - whoever has the bag when the music stops had to pick something from the sack without looking and put it on. I usually give a prize for silliest looking costume at the end.
Get a roll of bubble wrap and lay along the floor. Kids have to take turns to walk along it without popping any bubbles. Keeps everyone quiet as they all listen intently for pops!

Google it, there are a couple of websites with party game ideas for all ages.

I am sure you will find something suitable.

Musical chairs, funny relay races, e.g. with baloon between them.

I alway have some quieter sitting down games ready if things get too heated.

LOVE the bubble wrap idea - what a pity my dds are too old for parties. :(

AChickenCalledKorma · 09/06/2012 16:22

Are you prepared to let them get messy? If so, my 9yo's favourite party game is the one where you hide some sweets in a pile of flour and they take it in turns to stick their face in it and remove a sweet with their teeth!

Or the chocolate game where you take it in turns to throw a dice and when someone gets a 6 they have to put on hat, scarf and gloves and attempt to eat large chocolate bar with a knife and fork ... until someone else gets a 6.

Good old musical statues?

lilolilmanchester · 09/06/2012 16:39

how many children will there be?

MaggieW · 09/06/2012 20:11

Thanks all for great suggestions so far.

Lilo, there'll be 16 in total.

Do you know the chocolate game? Pass round a dice and when you get a 6 you have to put on hat gloves and scarf and have to unwrap a chocolate bar with a knife and fork. Can't touch the chocolate. You have until the next person rolls a 6 to eat as much chocolate as possible. Also have done pass the parcel with dares like sing a song or count backwards. Also do you have a wii? A singing or dancing game is good.

I remember one I played at a party when I must have been around that age that involved a big slab of Cabury's/Galaxy chocolate (wrapped), a knife and fork, and hat, gloves and scarf. You also needed a die - if you rolled a six you had to put on the clothes and then you could start attacking the bar with the cutlery - as it was wrapped it took a bit of time to get going - and you did this until another person rolled a six. Then you had to rip off the clothes ASAP and let them have a go. The reward was obviously getting through to the chocolate and scoffing a load...

If you're in a hall too you could always do running around games - there was one with a pirate theme when you shouted 'port' and everyone ran to (fuck - the left?), 'starboard' (the other way), 'climb the rigging' (stationary climbing motions), 'scrub the decks' (another mime), 'man overboard' (everyone has to find a piggy back partner). You could also perhaps do 'stern' and whatever the opposite is for running to the front and back of the hall.

I was going to suggest the chocolate too (we used to use mars bars) game - 16 quite a lot for that though?
There's another one where you label the 4 corners of the room (could be colours, names of stations, football teams whatever theme you like) when music stops, they all have to choose a corner, one of the corners is "picked out of the hat" and those children are out. That's particularly good with very big numbers.

flap a fish in teams has been very successful in the past.

Also Kim's game where you have to remember 10 things on a tray is good.
