English Speaking Board Exams

I've found out that next year when DD is in her new school, she will be taking the English Speaking Board Exam. I have looked at their website, but am still none the wiser as to exactly what this is. Is it teaching children to express things clearly and concisely? Blush

It is similar to the Lambda exam but more is required. Children recite a poem or monologue, read a literary passage and make a 3 minute presentation and answer questions relating to it. They also must sit in another two presentations and ask questions. It teaches them presentation, public speaking and listening skills. My son has done it the last two years. It is a great programme but requires list of preparation.

Thanks Majurormi. That sounds like a fantastic thing to teach children.

I did them back in the early 80's. It's basically public speaking skills.

Lots of fun - and a LOT of preparation, mainly for the project. I remember a girl who did a presentation on her horse and brought the beast right into the classroom!

The lowest English set does these exams in our school (not because they are aimed at low ability children but because they have extra English lessons and it really benefits them to do this kind of extra).

They're great imo. The children have to give talks, recite poems etc. i would disagree that is harder than LAMDA but it's still very valuable.
