DD's feet are too small for school!

DD starts school in Sept. I took a quick look at school shoes (i know, i know, pfb and all that).

All the school styles start at size 9. She's just gone into a clarks' 8.5 E, having been an 8 for an age. In another shoe shop with a startrite measure she was a 7.5!

Anyone recommend a shop for scuff proof shoes for smallish feet?

Mummy pig, maybe one day my children will stop growing...I am a perfectly normal size!

asll my children have big feet, ds1 is 14 and a size 9, ds2 is only just 10 and a size 7 already, dd1 is 6 and a size 12 and dd2 is 2 and a size 8 already!

clarks do do the smaller sizes from a 7 so you should be fine as long as organised and nto elft til the day before they start school.

We have the opposite problem in that ds2 still needs young shoes but being a size 7 its all adult mens shoes.

I knew you'd be hanging on, waiting for an update - we have school shoes!

In the end it was the narrow width fitting that was the biggest problem.

Only one style at the local independent shop didn't gape, (and they had just had their big school shoe delivery) so DD is now the proud owner of some Startrite Louisa shoes in a 9E.

They are patent leather and have buckles, not Velcro, so they are a way from ideal, but they fitted and DD thought they felt comfy, so we went for it.

DD and I are both pleased that this part of prep for reception is over.

Glad you found some!

I was just going to post that DD was justabout a 7E when she started school last year and we got them from Clarks.

We were really lucky though, it was the first year (I was told by the assistant) that they had done school shoes in a 7. There are still only 2 pairs to choose from because most styles start at an 8.

But you have some now so all that's irrelevant :D

You can get plain black shoes for toddlers. Unless she's actually fairy sized, there really is no problem.

Going back a few years, but DD was only a size 5 or 6 when she started.
It was easier to get black patent leather.

We used an independent shop - the make Elefantan rings a bell.

Hello. We've ended up with Startrite Louisa in a 9e. They are patent with buckles.

So on the one hand, we have a pair and it wasn't an impossibility, on the other, there was only one style that fitted so we had no choice (in that one independent shop.)

I'm sure they start from size 7 ....

Clarks have them from a 7 - if the shop don't stock then order them into your store to try on.

My dd is much smaller, but her last winter's black patent Clarks shoes still fit and look reasonable, much to my surprise. I think they are a size 7.

One of dd1's friends started school in a 6.5 but managed to find a schoolish toddler pair. My neighbour's grandson is going into Year 1 and is the size of a 2/3 year old, with size 5 feet. He wears ordinary navy toddler shoes.

Glad you found a pair, anyway.

Gosh, both my boys had size 5 and a half as their first shoes at age 1 and a week and started P1 in size 1!! Hope the little one gets on okay and starts eating spinach to grow big and strong :)

My friends has a 3 year old and he is size 11 the last time I talked to her about it!

amck5700 · 04/08/2012 15:26

from that age mine went up at least a size every year.

My son started school in a size eight from Clarkes. I got them to order them in. They make them, they just may not have them in stock.
