Views on Hill House, Cameron House, Thomas's or Knightsbridge Schools?

Any views on Hill House, vs. Cameron House, vs. Thomas's, vs Knightsbridge from parents/friends. All I have gathered is that Thomas's is "busy" and more "English" than the others. Hill House is "international", more sporty, and less academic when younger, but possibly more academic when older? Don't know much about Cameron House (small?) or Knightsbridge (charismatic head?) Any views, however brief, appreciated!

You need michaelaHpurple - she's the expert. I'm sure she'll be along in a minute!!
I don't have DC at any of these schools (but have friends with DCs at 3 of them).

HH - quite transitory population because it's international, but gets good exit results, not sure how sporty given lack of facilities (in the past it has not been strong), music good. Big school but small classes (10-12)

Thomas's - get ready to throw yourself into it, busy is a good word, selective entry so they will choose you, have heard little tolerance for SEN and average kids can slip through the net, strangely does not post it's exit results on its website so can't judge how academic it is,

Knightsbridge - Head a marmite character, some find him charismatic, others don't like him. relatively new school so unproven academically (head was previously at a school that went to 11, so less experience at a 13+ exit than other schools),

Cameron House - small, no/very little outside space which may be an issue if you have boys. Also means there will be less opportunity for lots of sports teams, orchestra, lots of after school club choice etc. However it's size probably means it is nurturing. Don't know proportion of boys who stay beyond 8, so may be girl top heavy!

Good luck

Thank you! I forgot to mention: for a girl. Smart, charming, usually first an observer, until she feels comfortable in a setting, then quite outgoing/happy. Which of the London Pre-prep co-ed are best for academics + some sports (such as swimming? tennis?) + art?

In Chelsea or are you looking further afield? Where do you live?

JBug · 31/05/2012 13:03

South Kensington, Chelsea, Knightsbridge. We live on the border Sw5 where meets with Sw7

She is at Tadpoles (to give you a sense of area). Also have applied to G..... House and F...ner House. Not sure if GH might be too princess-y? FH - very close to us, but we are not sure - is it a "hothouse" + all-girls (not necessarily a negative, just different from what DH and I had thought)

Are you looking at Glendower too? Good academics and their swimming and netball is good. What about Newton Prep over the bridge?

JBug · 31/05/2012 14:34

Didn't apply to Glendower (yet), just one all-girls (FHouse). Why? I don't know, just had the impression that some people weren't happy with G? some administrative issues occurring? and again, was concerned about "hothouse" reputation - although don't know if this is accurate or not. and Newton Prep ruled out just because of location (across the bridge)

Starting with the positives, the Knightsbridge school building is beautiful and spacious and they offer the opportunity to study a variety of modern languages. Knightsbridge school was founded as recently as 2006 by 3 City financiers and the Headmaster is an ex-Army Captain. Knightsbridge school also seems to have "branches" in Bogota, Colombia and Panama. However, I do agree with the not-so-glowing Ofsted reports of this school, that the quality of teaching in some classes is unsatisfactory. The pupils did not appear to be disciplined by their teachers, some children were fighting with each other, were not engaged in purposeful activities during the classes and none of the pupils replied to us saying Good Morning to them. I asked the school registrar to send me the records of the numbers of pupils moving on to various senior schools and she was not pleasant... reluctantly she agreed to send me this information but has not done so ! We have registered our child at another school with a more established academic record and run by teachers. Something did not feel right at all about Knightsbridge school...

Hi, my sons school has recommended we apply for him to go to Cameron house school, we have missed the deadline for the Harrodian. How easy is it to get into Cameron House and if accepted does anybody have any advice of getting into the Harrodian when he is 11, as its the school we like. Anyone sent their children to either school, please help.
