Musing about a different sort of tutoring

dd1 is 8.5, in Y3 at our local state primary (which she, and we, love).

Its very early days, but she's started talking about Secondaries - just in a relaxed, 'wonder where I'll end up' sort of way - and so have a few of her friends. Our local state secondary is improving rapidly, but a year or two ago I would certainly not have sent her there - and can't imagine she'd have liked it if she'd visited.

There's a good chance it will be fine by the time she gets to Y7 - but in any case, I'd quite like her to have the opportunity of visiting a whole variety of local secondaries, state and Indie, and seeing which way she wants to go.

On that basis, and as we've been introduced to a very lovely lady who does a non-pushy, lots of fun sort of tutoring, I'm wondering whether to go for tutoring next year for her - she's quite keen.

Has anyone else done a sort of 'just to make school work easier/give you more options' tutoring? As opposed to 'aiming to get into XYZ School' tutoring? Was it a positive experience?

Should add, she's bright (top sets in her class) but not academically motivated - more the creative type, but its too early to know what she'll be like later!

My ds2 goes to a tutor, and has for a couple of years (he is nearly 9)

It is not to get him into a school as it is unlikely he will sit the 11 plus for the school my older DCs are at, as he is more creative than academic, but it is the same tutor we use for our 14 yo as she is starting her exams.

It is only an hour a week and has definitely helped him at school.

Thanks Smile

Looks as though we are a tad unusual in choosing tutoring for general support/choice rather than aiming at school entry!
