I know it isn't the end of the world BUT yesterday he came out so happy as his maths went well.
Today he was grumpy and told me "i only managed up to q17 as i am very slow".
I did my best to encourage him "it's ok we are happy that you tried".
Does anyone one how good/bad only answering up to q17 is? Did he miss just 3 or did he miss 13? He said his friends all finished.
I have been disctracting him (thank God for the sunshine) as he is worried about tomorrows writing ... again he says he works slowly.
The teacher did mention that he doesn't finish work in allocated time but what he does do is of excellent quality. Not sure what I can do from home about his work speed, any ideas? TIA

Moving Home/ Stones and bones

or
Crocodiles/Netherlands

Crocodiles, level 2.
Remember that his level for assessment will be based on a range of evidence, of which the SATS are only one set. His teacher will know his true ability and report that to his next teacher.

thanks fallen - at parents evening she said he was level 3 in maths (at home he attempts his brothers Y5 maths and sometimes gets it right!)
He is best speller but works too slow to be level 3 in english.
We just say that only he can apply himself and we don't want to push him the other way that he hates work.
I'm trying not to talk about school tonight - aahhh he is so different to DS1 who loves tests. This ones hates them and I'm sure he doesn't as well under the pressure and let's not forget he isn't as quick as others.
Oh well it takes all sorts to make the world go round!!

What he is at 7 may well not be what he is at 11 or 14.
You sound like a great support, particularly the bit where you remember that he's not like his brother. Smile And he knows that it's OK not to be.

Hi Fallen I am very relaxed about SATs and with 2 kids I can see how some children love them and others can't take the pressure.
I have always told them that as long as they put in effort then I will never moan at them!
I dislike parents whose children get a B and they say "why didn't you get an A" rather than praise the B. Does that make sense?
I'm sure his teacher will take into account that he doesn't work that quickly and he may have answered them all right and the other made mistakes?
Right, off to give him a bath but many thanks for your kind words! :)
