Will ds1's teacher hate me for keeping this appointment?

It is booked for tomorrow immediately after school but I have just realised they are on a trip to a local attraction tomorrow. They are due back by normal school finishing time and it is only 15 minute drive away. Still, I imagine it will be a more tiring than usual day for the teacher.

Meeting is because I am worried about ds's (YR) social skills (have had a couple of MN threads about it) and have even worried that he is displaying signs of autism. DH, sahd, thinks I am being ridiculous - they are not huge issues, more little niggles that I keep having.

I teach f/t 40 minutes away from the school where ds is and have had to speak to the head to get my last lesson tomorrow covered so that I can be at ds's school at 3.10. I have told a white lie at work to explain my leaving early as I don't wish to discuss my worries with colleagues and it would be very hard to explain why what I have said is happening is now not happening but will be happening next week...

Dh told me that last week the teacher told him at drop-off time that she has been keeping more of an eye on ds in preparation for her meeting with me and really thinks he is absolutlely fine. Dh told her he agreed but that I won't listen to him Grin and she said she would be happy to reassure me. Now I think she was probably hoping to get out of the meeting and I feel bad about insisting on it but it really will be a total pita to rearrange it.

Teachers - is this really inconsiderate of me?

Err, no! Presumably your DS's teacher knew they were on a trip when the appointment was made, as long as there's time for a cup of coffee first I'm sure there's no problem! If you have some concerns, it's best to air them as soon as you can, even if it's just for the reassurance

Main thing to remember is that the teacher is not qualified to dx ASD and may not recognise it.

Every single teacher told me DS2 was fine, when we both thought he had Aspergers.

All of the teachers were wrong. But because I listened to their reassurance it stopped us from getting a dx for 2 years.

So ask very specific questions.

I'm not a teacher, but would've thought that the teacher would have been aware of the trip when they made the appointment so it shouldn't be a problem.

Is the teacher saying that she has witnessed the issues that you are concerned about but feels that they are within the range of typical development? Or is it that she hasn't seen any sign of the things that you are concerned about?
