Does anyone know which one of the fowllowing schools are thought of as the "good" schools looking at 11+ pass rates, happy pupils, extra curriculum activities, parental involvement?

  1. Bowdon COE Primary School
  2. Park Road Primary School (Timperley)
  3. Stamford Park (hale)
  4. Altrincham COE Primary School

We are moving to the area and wondering which is the best. I ahve checked the ofsted reports for all of them but need a Mum's idea on them. We won't have the catchment area problem as my daughter is currently in year4 and will start year5 in September. All of the above schools have places available for year5 but I'm not sure which one is the best.

She is very worried/ nervouse about changing school and ending up in a school with not very nice kids.

Any thoughts and advice would be great and very appreciated.

Many Thanks
Noushy

Do you mean Heyes Lane Primary rather than Park Road Primary?

If catchment not a problem I would go with Bowden. Lovely ethos and good 11+ passes etc. I wouldn't say any are bad schools though. Lovely area and lots of excellent secondaries to move on to!

Thanks for your msg. No it's definitely called Park Road Primary (it's changed to Park Road Academy Primary School recently). Went to Bowdon Primary last week myself, it looked like a good school & ofsted report is outstanding for all aspect but felt a bit unfriendly/ strict, not very welcoming.
Park Road Primary ofsted report is dated 2005 so I'm not quite sure about it, although the office people seemed quite friendly & offered a tour of school for my daughter.
She is not very clever but not academic (more Art & Crafty) & need constant push! she has private tutoring at the moment to get prepared for 11+ exam so we do definitely need a school with high 11+ pass rate.

Sooo confused & worry myself. Her being under so much stress for changing school makes me feel really bad & decision making harder...

Both my dc are at the local girls/boys grammar schools in Altrincham. If your dd is not academic as you say in your last post, I would seriously rethink sending her to a grammar school, The girls school in particular is fiercely academic so may not be the best place for her. Wellington is an extremely good comprehensive where she may do better. Just a thought.....

A very close friend has her DD at Park Rd in Timperley and it's fantastic . Its a pushy school in that they push them academically . I believe they have very pass rates for the grammar school. It's also a tough school to get in as the catchment is very small .

My friend works at Park Road and has moved her son there - she loves it.

My son is in year 5 at Brooklands and we have the 11 plus dilemma. I am not sure that the grammar is the right place for someone who needs to be extensively tutored to get in as they are so academic and she may struggle.

I am kind of hoping my son doesn't pass as I think he may well do better at a secondary school - have you been to see Altrincham College of Arts? Supposed to be an excellent secondary for artistic children.
