level 2 or level 3 paper

My ds did a reading 'booklet' yesterday on the Netherlands. Is this the level 2 or 3 paper?

Doesn't sound too exciting to me or a subject that would thrill him to read in detail.

Thanks in advance

If it was one about windmills that is a Level 3 paper (remember my DS doing it).

Wineo my dd has just done that paper too and I searched old threads on here and it is level 3. I asked her if It was about windmills too and she said no so I imagine my dd may not have scored very well if she totally missed that. Oops!

Thanks x. It makes me nervous just thinking of them doing them. Goodness knows what I'll be like come KS2 SATs and when he does GCSEs.

Caffeinated I'm sure she'll have done well. They wouldn't put her in for it if they didn't think she'd do well -surely!

Ds1 came home yesterday and said he'd done a reading test paper, his was about Antarctica. Nfi what it's in aid of - school haven't said anything about testing them and he's only in Year 3 (though a mixed 3/4 class). He said there were 6 of them who sat it, and he was the only Y3.

Is this something that happens every year in juniors? Should we have been told or is it yet another one of those things that school just assume everyone knows?!

betterwhenthesunshines · 15/05/2012 14:36

Crocodiles here apparently. DD (yr 2) happily informed me that she didn't leave ANYTHING blank - she just wrote "I don't know". So that's OK then :o

redskyatnight · 15/05/2012 14:39

cockadoodle - could be optional Y3 SATs? Though my Y3 DS seems to quite frequently be assessed so it might be something like that?

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/05/2012 14:39

Cockadoodle, the Antarctic paper is an optional SATs paper for year 4.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/05/2012 14:39

Oops, crossed.

COCKadoodledooo · 15/05/2012 16:05

Thanks. So, should school have told/asked us? Will we find out what his result is?

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/05/2012 16:10

No, normal end of year assessment. They probably don't want to make a big deal of it and stress out the children. It'll make up part of their teacher assessment which you should get in their report. My DS's school don't give out NC levels in the report, it might confuse the poor parents. Hmm You have to ask for them, they just give them A, B, C or D grades for effort and attainment.

YourFanjoIsNotAHandbag · 15/05/2012 16:10

better my ds1 did that when he did his SATS, he was so proud he filled in every question, even though one said "I don't know" with a sad face picture next to it.

COCKadoodledooo · 15/05/2012 16:15

Cool. Thanks for letting me know. Have had a few concerns with the school in the not too distant past but if this is normal then that's grand and something to take off the list.

Iamnotminterested · 15/05/2012 16:19

COCKadoodledoo What's the problem? Children are tested at various times throughout the year and at the end of the academic year...think it's always been that way?! What do you think you should have been told? The title of the paper beforehand so that you could get a copy and prime your DS? Most schools keep assessments - with the obvious exception of year 6 - low-key so that kids and parents don't freak out and put stress on the kids.

COCKadoodledooo · 15/05/2012 18:45

Iamnot I don't understand your rant at me? Ds has never before come home and said (other than spellings) "I had a test today", so I was curious. Where's the problem?

And "...think it's always been that way?!" well, apparently so, and yet another one of those things you are supposed to know about school but they don't actually seem to tell you.

Of course I wouldn't get ds to practice the paper beforehand, negates the point totally, what a ridiculous suggestion. Sheesh.
