Daughter says she loves SATS!

My DD is in year 2. I asked if year 2 had started SATS yet. DD said yes, and she loved the SATS. She said the "math was good" and they did some "fun reading about fossils and dinosaurs".

Should I have her mental health checked out? (I AM joking there. We have had some recent problems but I am delighted to hear at least my child isn't worrying over her tests. I just hope she is actually doing her best, even at the parts that might be less "fun".)

When my DS did KS1 SATs a couple of years ago he enjoyed them too!

My ds enjoyed 'Stones and bones' as he called it. Says he likes the literacy as the answers are in the paper. For the same reason he is not so keen on the maths as the answers aren't there!

My son enjoyed his KS2 sats too. I think it is something about being able to work undisturbed and knowing what is expected of you....

Your school is obviously doing it all right if she is enjoying them they clearly haven't overplayed the importance or made the children feel anthing other than relaxed and happy - well done your school , I wish they were all like that.

I quite enjoyed exams, right the way up until A-level (uni got a bit hard).

My DS doesn't seem to know he is doing tests at all. Yesterday he told me excitedly that he has done lots of writing about planets and told me in detail what he had written and that he was planning to bring it home - but he forgot!

Could that have been SATS? DS hates writing, he has never written a whole sentence at home, although I heard he does do it at school Confused

My yr6 is fairly enthusiastic about the sats week. They "relax" and have breakfast for an hr or so, then they do "just an hour's work", then they spend the afternoon doing art and more "relaxing".

She likes tests. She's competitive and tends to do well. My last year's yr 6 also enjoyed sats week. She's so uncompetitive that she doesn't get stressed by tests. And she also liked the school breakfasts and the afternoons of art.

We have a great year 2 teacher. Someone I know with a DD in year 6 is extremely stressed though. Maybe they try to make it 'fun' and relaxing for the younger ones.

I used to love the end of year tests when I was at primary school, wished we could do them everyday lol!
My Y2 dd hasn't a clue that she will be/is doing SATs, I have no idea if they have done any yet as parents have just been told they will be done in May and June.
My dd loves the reading comprehension type questions, we have had a few homework tasks over the last couple of months that are formatted like I think the SAT test books are, she loves them and zips right through I don't however envy the teachers when they do the writing part, if she is anything like she can be at home the teachers will want a stiff drink after that one, if she just put the effort into doing it that she puts into trying to cheat/get someone to do it for her she would be flying away lol!

My ds is doing ks1 sats this week too and do far says he likes doing them which is good. He said he did maths/numeracy today.

gabsid · 16/05/2012 10:14

I do not know why parents get so worried about SATs, they are done to see how well the school has done.

gabsid · 16/05/2012 10:17

Oh, my DS told me yesterday that he really enjoyed stacking cups and that they did that just before maths, so I assume that was not part of the SATs exam then. Wink
