Hi I have been told that a local primary has spaces free for reception. We can not attend our allocated primary and are appealing for a place at the school My dd is currently in nursery. But I have been trying to put plan b together I have her name on waiting lists and also got her name down at a day nursery for her 15 hrs . But I have been told I can't have one off the free places yet , untill everybody's acceptances r back yet there are free places currently . Is this right ?? X

you can phone the lea and check where you are on the reserved list....if any places are available then they will work their way down that reserved list good luck x

juedanlil · 10/05/2012 22:30

I spoken to them today and they say can't offer anything till everybody's slips back. Yet a friend been able get a place at another school she wasn't allocated . Think will ask them bout reserve list tomoro . Thanks

If there is a free place and no waiting list they must give it to you if you apply. My guess is that there is a waiting list.

juedanlil · 11/05/2012 07:28

I am goin ring again today cause they said there are 4 places free but can't give them till everybody's slips back . X

I suspect there is a waiting list and they are waiting for that to settle down after acceptances.

If there is no waiting list, you should be given any vacant place you apply for.

juedanlil · 11/05/2012 11:29

No there is no waiting list , they haven't filled the reception class, I am just waiting for admissions to call me back x

Great. You could even mention the lengths you have gone to, to get a school place for your child, to demonstrate that you are a reasonable person and not holding a gun to the LEA's head.

juedanlil · 11/05/2012 20:22

Thank you panelchair , do you think its worth mentioning , never even thought bout it x

It's certainly worth mentioning, because it shows that you're not trying to blackmail the panel by saying that it's the appeal school or nothing. You need to convince the panel that it's the appeal school that's the best school for your child but you are being realistic in accepting that s/he has to go to school somewhere.

juedanlil · 12/05/2012 09:07

Thanks panelchair , I have given my appeal in now , but she did say I can add anything to it. Will write a little note stating what I have done to find another school for her to attend .I feel I haven't stopped trying to sort this out since I received my letter ! Thanks

Great news you managed to get a place at 'plan b' school. How did you mange it?? I keep getting fobbed off with the excuse they need to wait till the waiting lists have been composed!

The school I have been allocated is absolutely awful (did not get any of choices). There is a lovely school in village just outside our city with 5 places empty. I have been told by school that they have to wait for LEA to give them the numbers, then if there are more than 5 we have to ranked according to the admissions criteria. I would like to think if they are not full and I want a place that I could have it. If there was a waiting list surely they would have filled up the class from the first 5?!

Sorry for the rant....just so frustrating. I am going to appeal for first choice (but it is an ICS) and on their reserve list, but want to make sure my daughter has a least a decent school as backup.

Winksclub76 · 14/05/2012 12:35

We can't find out about positions on waiting lists until Mon 21st May

Hi winks , the school was under subscribed and I was told same would have to wait , but I spoke to admissons direct and basicly said how can I get a plan b, and if there no waiting list y can I not have a place . She got sumbody to get back to me and they emailed me saying yes I could have one off the free places and they declined the other school for me. I have had confirmation this morn. Ring them and tell them you Defo want a place secured . But still what to stay on the waiting lists for ya other choices . Good luck with your appeal to Xx

Hi Juedanlil

I have also tried calling the LEA to try and succure a place in a school that was under subscribed (mine was a late app) but they have said I have to wait until after the May 21st when the waiting list is composed just like Winksclub76. Suppose what I would like to know is what area you in and how you manage to get a place you luck thing :-)

Winksclub76 · 14/05/2012 17:37

Hi all, the village school I'd like a place in is definitely undersubscribed, they only have 25 children and want to fill it. Unfortunatley the schools hands are tied and have to follow the system. Like Simply123 I just want to ring and secure the place now. Have you got tips on what to say Juedanlil ;) they have already had enough of me calling about the silly PAN 45 - Prejudice at 50 business......

admission · 14/05/2012 17:56

You should just send an email to the admission office saying you understand that the school has available places and that you want to apply for a place at that school. You need to weave into the letter the date that you originally established that the school had places, so that if you do not get a place you can argue on appeal that as the school was not full the first five people to ask for the places should have been given them, there was no requirement to form a waiting list.

juedanlil · 14/05/2012 18:08

Hi I am in stoke on Trent . And I just said I wanted to secure a place for my daughter , at first I was told the same I would have to wait untill 18th may , I said I was not happy to wait and I how could i get a back up plan (which is wot they kept telling me I needed to do as my appeal may not be won) if they would not allow me to secure a place . I also stated that I had been advise that I was entitled to have a place if there was not a waiting list . In the end she said she would get sumbody to call me . They didn't they emailed me and it said we have recorded your chance in schools , then I got one saying I had got a place. And received written confirmaton this morn. I made it clear tho that I still wanted to stay on waiting list for first choice. Xx
