*private 1-2-1 tuition or group tuition*

My daughter aged 5, currently goes to a group tuition every saturday for about 75mins each session. She has been doing this for about 5 months now and likes it a lot. The only problem is, I have noticed that she is not being challenged enough. Several times when I've gone to pick her up, I noticed she had been on the computer throughout without a 1-2-1 with the teacher. Also last week the teacher was shocked to find out she could read really well. She has been reading really well for a long time.

I was thinking of maybe changing to a 1-2-1 tutor but haven't got a clue if this is a better option or where to start! Does anyone know of any good tutors around the bromley area? Or any other recommendations? Thanks.

How come your DD has a tutor at 5 if she is doing really well anyway? Seems very young to begin tutoring to me

What do you want her to learn? It seems to me that vaguely intelligent parents can teach their young children most things at that age.

Tuition is not just about helping children in areas of weakness but to help improve their skills and maximise their potential.

I do extra work with her after school as well and she enjoys maths, reading, spelling etc.Because she's way ahead in class, her teacher allows her to do various activities with yr1 even though she's in reception so she's not bored.

Back to my previous message, I just don't like the idea of children working on educational websites for that lenght of time and I think it should be a mix between that and a 121 with the teacher.
If anyone knows of any good tution centres in the bromley area or a good private tutor, please let me know. Thanks.

There are many ways to stretch a bright child and at 5 it sounds like she is doing enough academic work. Learning a musical instrument is a good way, music theory too. Chess and sport can help. It helps the child have a much more balanced education and proves she can be challenged in lots of ways. I have a capable child and have never felt the need to do extra work at home. She swims in 2 squads and has got distinction in speech and drama and grade 2 violin. She wouldn't want to be sat behind a desk other than at school, she is 8 and in year 3. The extension work she does there is enough and the extra curricular things she does after school and during lunchtimes keep her brain active at all times! She is a child who needs constant stimulation as she has Aspergers. Reading also is a good way to broaden little minds, she is currently reading Anne Frank's Diary.

Thanks Shellye.
She also does swimming, ballet & tap. I like the idea of learning a musical instrument.

That's an awful lot of activities for a 5 year old?

Is there any unstructured fun in her day at all?

A musical instrument on top of tutoring, extra work at home, ballet, tap,swimming....and school?
