Do parents and/or children have to be informed if the child will be sitting a L6 paper?

That's it really. Just curious.

Not as far as I know. First thing I'd heard of it was when dd1 said to me that she'd been asked if she wanted to sit the level 6 papers in all subjects. I asked what she'd said and she'd said yes to maths but asked for time to think about the others. That was back in January.
In March when we had the parent's evening the teacher said "I'm sure you're aware that we want her to sit all the level 6 papers", very much as an aside.

I believe the whole top set are sitting it in maths. I think there's a couple in the second set, but don't know whether that's the teacher's choice, child's choice or parent choice-I don't think they're covering the extra stuff needed in the second set, so wonder why they're not just moving them up.

There hasn't been anything "officially" telling me, and thb I don't mind whether she does it or not, and I don't think she's that bothered except she likes the extra challenge in maths.

I think so. We were told our daughter would be sitting the reading paper via a letter from her school.

My son was asked if he wanted to. I've not heard anything.

My DS1's class teacher, who is also the Deputy HT, has told me that my DS1 will be sitting the L6 papers for English and maths next year. He is currently in Y5, and hoping to pass the 11+ and get into Grammar school. DS1 is looking forward to it - and says he thinks that the maths paper will be easy(!). He doesn't get that from me - I'm rubbish at maths. He is currently working at L6/L7 depending on the maths unit in class, and does some L8 work when he has his once a week lesson with the HT and one other dc from Y5 and three from Y6.

No, legally they don't have to be informed.

My DD was asked by her English teacher at parents' evening, with me present - she said yes. I wouldn't have minded either way as long as DD was asked rather than told.

My ds is doing the maths and reading L6 papers, or at least he has been told to do so. He is keen some days, others not. I don't mind either way, but I do have some concerns that, as they are not being taught topics not covered in the normal maths syllabus, there is a possibility of failure, which will override any sense of achievement felt by doing well in the L3-5 paper. Know what I mean?
