Does anyone know of any reading games I can play with my reception ds that does not involve the computer? We play "I Spy", but what others?

Thank you so much!

Treasure hunts? You could make a few phonics cards, say the sound, and get your ds to find the card with that sound on it? once he finds ten he gets a chocolate biscuit sticker?

Draw mazes with letters? Bizarrely my ds loved the Usborne Big Book of Mazes from a very early age - it seemed much too complicated to me but he really liked it.

Alphabet game - take turns to name, for example animals, foods, names in alphabetical order.

Rhyming game - someone thinks of a word and the other person has to think of as many rhymes as possible.

Simple puzzles like word searches.

Make some cards in pairs with a picture on one card and the word on another and play matching games.

There is a book called Games for Reading by Peggy Kaye (I think). I haven't used it myself but it may have some ideas for you.

Other games that aren't 'reading' games with letters as such but all help with the kind of processing and visual skills you need for reading:

"I went shopping and I bought....." think up a silly long list, can be adapted to Christmas, holiday suitacse etc

Where's Wally books for visual skills
Spot the difference pictures
Picture pairs memory game
Jigsaw puzzles
