SATS marking - questions (KS2)

Hi, just wanted to ask about SATs marking.

Ds1 is Y6, doing SATs in a few weeks. He is doing L6 papers in reading and maths (I think). I just wanted to know how the marks are allocated - eg, if he passes the threshold for L6 maths, but his L3-5 paper was a 5b level, would he be graded as L6? Or would it be an aggregate?

Similarly, with the reading, would this mean he could potentially get L6 for reading, which is then aggregated with his writing mark to get an overall English mark? Or are they done separately? Or would we never know what the reading mark is?

Thanks! Am confused!

You don't get sublevels in SATS, only whole levels.

To get a L6 you need to get a L5 in the 3-5 paper and a L6 in the L6 paper.

Nobody is quite sure how English is going to be scored this year, due to the internally marking of the writing paper, but for the reading part of it it should be the same as the maths - you need to get a L5 and a L6.

Thanks, that makes sense. The teachers always mark them in sublevels at school so I'd assumed that was reflected in their final mark, but that does make sense if it isn't. Ds1 is a pretty safe level 5 in maths and reading, not so sure about writing...
